Vanquish

I saw the 360 version is sub HD at 1024x720 on a news site. Didn't bother investigating further.

Same as the PS3 version. They're both 1024x720 with two levels of multisampling. Doesn't really matter does it? Particularly as it's vertically scaling up with the anti-aliasing included, it actually looks a lot better than some pessimists would imply.

Oh. The tone of that post implied that you viewed it in a dim light. My bad.

No, I just wasn't aware that the PS3 version was the same. I thought you had made a mistake by saying the 360/PS3 versions were identical. :D But you were right in the end.

The PS3 was the lead development platform for this game (Which is a good thing as it makes it easier for the rest), but in the end, it doesn't matter as it looks like Platinum Games may have learn't their lessons, especially when it came to Bayonetta.

Just downloading the demo now to take a peek.

Is this the one that was initially likened to being Gears of War for the PS3? Then it went multiplatform.

I think that was Tecmo's upcoming Quantum Theory.

Day one purchase for me.

Never really heard of the game until i saw a post on Eurogamer, then saw a vid, then read the comments, then played the demo.

Loved every second.

Can't wait for the release.

Well, two words after trying the demo, ******* awesome.

Shame about the overall cliched story elements and voice acting as sounds like a really badly done Anime-dub. I do sometimes wonder if it was all deliberately set like this due to this macho-istic game type.

It's also nice to finally see one of the few decent Japanese developers that is back in the groove and to produce a 3rd-person shooter game that actually works well, especially seeing as much of the gameplay mechanics were originally innovated by them (Camera-style, cover mechanics etc), and when these days it's more common for people to think of Gears of War instead.

I just hope it comes out for the PC.

I highly doubt this as I would have also liked to have seen Bayonetta for the PC.

Devil May Cry 4 PC version was done exceptionally well, so it would have been nice to see some more of this style of game.

My mate was complaining about having to use the triggers on the DS3 to aim and fire, just a note that control type B actually changes those to the front bumpers (L1 & R1). Just in case people overlook this.

Just played the demo on my ps3 and wow... this gonna be a day one purchase for me it's got me sold just by playing the demo, I love arcadey style shooters. Give it a go it's exellent! ;)

Pros

+ good combat, shooty gameplay
+ no slowdowns with everything going onscreen.

Cons

- need to be a contortionist to adequately use the moves effectively because the two control schemes are poor imo. Cant really do boost + aim + shoot (or melee) with ease due to the button setup.

- dont like controls (see above) need more options here
- graphics are ok a bit meh but not stand out.
- too many explosions marr the environments. Overall look is kinda messy. Its not distinctive enough
- cheesy, cliched design.

Game reminded me a little of Gears of War except not as good, not as tight (control scheme on Gears is near perfect making movement and combat a joy)

Shame as i like the bullet time and boost combat and imo but controls just NO. This couldve been the start of an immense 3rd person fast combat IP series on the PS3...

If i was to fix it i would allow users to customise controls entirely. I would enhance boost mode to be upgradeable (change the moves to be more creative boost moves etc) and MORE FREE. As i feel unless it has more depth it could be a repetitive one trick pony basically.

6/10 with decent control setup 8/10 maybe

*possibly felt the pain of the controls more due to my broken wrist :p

Looks like one of those games that looks bloody awesome and amazing but then reviews come out and it gets 4/10.

EDIT: Wait, theres a demo? kthxbye.

I reckon it's no more than a 7/10 game on average if the entire game is up to the standard of the demo. It's good but I can't see anything that really grabs me.

Quite impressive for ye olde PS3. Will certainly check out the full thing once it drops in price (the PC gamer in me refuses to pay 40 quid for a game).
