All it does is "Measure" a specific way of thinking. On the opposite side of things, it's like calling some one stupid because they're not good at maths.
To me, IQ is like BMI. Doesn't really mean anything, but it's a number some people can use to feel good or bad about themselves, but the system it works on is extremely flawed.
Why would they change the minimum score required to enter? when it should always represent the top 2%?
They need re-testing, the score is already a balanced revised system.
That would work as well. Or if you raise it one point every 3 years and then boot out anybody who got a lower score than the new minimum. Of course, who's going to throw out 33,000 people paying £45 per annum?
But my point is still the same. 33% of the current membership of Mensa are not in the top 2%.
As a teenager I sent off for the first little booklet which would check if it was worth your entering the 'proper' test.
It had the usual IQish puzzles in it, plus a word search and a couple of other things. It said that it'd probably take half an hour to complete.
I'm not saying this to show off, as I think everyone on this forum would have exactly the same experience: It took me 10 minutes.
I think I then looked up the benefits and costs and decided it wasn't worth my while paying a tenner for the little booklet to be marked, only to then have to pay for the next test too, and then also an annual membership!
