Been thinking about this and wondering if all you had to live in was a tent which you moved from time to time then what would your home address be ?

How would you get employment if the employer needs an address or contact details on your cv,application form and that goes with every other thing medical form, tax form every other important form etc ?

How would you prove you lived in a particular place, county area etc ?

Can you legally live in a tent without trespassing on someones land in this country?

1. You wouldn't have one.

2. You wouldn't be able to as you have no fixed address. It's the same problem which homeless people have.

3. You can't.

4. Yes, as you may own the land yourself. In which case, you could have the fixed address anyway. Aside from that, there is plenty of common land left.

You can make a tent your home but for an address you'd need a bit of land, either rented or purchased.

If you dont have anywhere like that then you probably wont get a job or a bank account or much else. In fact, you'd probably be a bit of a bum.

I remember something a while ago about a doctors surgery in Birmingham who started putting in benches as homeless people addresses so they could get medical care.

So you can live your life in a tent (somewhere forest whatever) as a free human right but your not allowed do what the majority do in society which is work, family, work, average Joe etc is that not a bit discriminating ?

It's crossed my mind a couple of times. I'm not sure how it would work with regards to getting a job or a bank account for instance. Everyone requires a permanent address these days.

You would be able to shower? Good hygine?

Think about it? In todays society, a house is needed.

There is a guy in america I think it was who lives up in the mountains in a cave and just doesnt get involved in modern society. I think the article was called 'can you live without money' or something like that.

Basically it's not the way I would choose to live my life. I like camping and the outdoors but I also like working and being warm!

Who owns newly created land? For example, in Iceland, say an underwater volcano erupted creating a new island. Does the government automatically assume control or could you in theory stake your claim to it?

you could just set up a post box account at Post office to collect mail from.

That was my thinking as well. Although I don't know whether you could use mail sent to the PO box as proof of address, I suspect that would depend on the individual company.

When you think about it, it's stuff like that which makes the welfare system so dysfunctional, as it means that the people most in need of its provisions are locked out of it if they can't provide a proof of address. It's that kind of thing that makes it difficult for people who've been knocked down (lost their job, had their home foreclosed on, whatever) to get back up.

Would you employ someone who lived in a tent whom you had no means of contacting before employment commenced or outside of work hours?

Irrespective of the logistical problems, somebody who lives in a tent is unlikely to be mentally sound and/or socially compatible in a working environment.

lol, bit of a generalisation there fella, many moons ago ( decades, as in ) i wound up homeless after a particularly bitter relationship break up, & ended up roughing it & sleeping in a concrete carpark, i was neither mentally unsound or socially inept, just skint & really bloody down on my luck.

Well yes, but we're not talking about that are we. We're talking about choosing to live in a tent, probably away from all civilisation, out of choice and for for the foreseeable future. Slightly different :p.
