100 Watts

Well I have a couple of Philips Softone bulbs and they are crap.

I'll be replacing them with LEDs shortly anyways.

I've never really understood people inpatients with energy saving bulbs. I just wait 30 seconds, I cant say the initial low level of light has ever held me back from doing what I needed the light for.

The fact that they use 1/4 the energy easily out weighs the waiting around IMO.

I actually like the old energy saving bulbs in the bathroom that take a while to warm up. Nothing worse than being blinded first thing in the morning while your eyes adjust!

Because by the time it takes for the bulb to warm up, I could be down the stairs and turning the light off with a normal bulb.

I don't want to wait, what if I'm in a hurry to get out the house?

Btw, its impatience*

I use 11W bulbs and never found the "warm up" time as bad as people make out.

Yes, the bulb comes on dimmer but it's probably 60% of the total output, so the room is perfectly lit as far as I'm concerned. As mentioned, it helps when you wake up and turn the light on in the bathroom :)

I still use some 40W bulbs in my lava lamps but everything else has been switched over to energy saving bulbs. The lava lamps provide a nice heat source during the Winter but I don't run them in the Summer because the living room gets too hot :(

Not that many people leaving 100w bulbs on all the time.

How about 24/7 overclocked computers? How about folding? It can get pretty expensive.

Exactly this. People are so ready to dismiss anything new and "eco" that they jump on the impatience bandwagon.

Who actually cares about waiting 20 seconds for a bulb to warm up fully when you're saving about 75% of the cost? It's madness!

There is one exception to that: the bathroom light.

Who has a bathroom so vast and so decorated that they need to wait for the bulb to warmup before they can see wtf they're going?

I certainly have never seen such a bathroom :p
