Logitech Z-5500, surround system or wait for the next model?

Thread Hijack :p

I looked at the Z-5500's the other day and almost went for a set on sale for £200. Just taken the plunge and gone for a separates setup instead.. :)

http://www.eu.onkyo.com/products/TX-SR607.html

complete with separate sub.

Hope I made the right choice but figured it was a better long term investment and I could always move it to the living room at a later date.

Ah hmmmm. Bit of a price difference unless you got it 2nd hand? Aren't they around £400 new plus you'd need at least £200 for a half decent sub and then say another £400 for the front, rear and centre speakers to do the amp justice?

Comparing a £1000+ seperates system is hardly fair :p

I was lucky enough to get given a TX-SR608 yesterday for free so I;m a happy bunny.

Just need to pick up another cheap set of surround speakers from Ebay and a good sub and my z-5500's can go up for sale. ;)

Fair point :D
I picked up the 607 for half price and a sub for £100 and reused the speakers from the S750. It's cost double the Logitech system on sale  but I think it'll be worth it in the long run.

Sweet, so the place i bought it from said 3 -5 days delivery, was free. Rang them up asking whats up with the order "we have it in stock but not despatched it yet" I ordered it on tuesday. They say it will be with me wed - fri next week. Tempted to cancel it and order it from ocuk, even if it is £40 more expensive.

How odd I was talking to amate on facebook about these last night, here is what he said

well and truley worth it, by far the best 200 quid you can spend on a comp purchase without a doubt, not heard any top of the range products from creative though, however if they can almost match my 1500 b and w speakers you cant go wrong. sound awesome in movies, got my blue linked up to them with optical cable etc and my tv :D, all speakers are wall mountable mate, the stand rotates and has screw holes in them

Really are great speakers! :)

I wish I could get rid of my brand new set though but postage just makes it not worth it!

I've got the Z-5500 and the are great. It's nice to have some tech that's actually gone up in price since I bought them! Got them for £180 a couple of years ago, they are £240 on the site I got them from now :D

the rrp is $399 :O

Although my control unit has some buttons that stick (been like that since I got it) Kind of annoying but I always use the remote anyway.

I've had my Z-5500's for about 3 years now and they are still fantastic. I have a complete home cinema system with A/V amp, but the positioning of my equipment just suits me better to have a dedicated 5.1 for my PC.

You really can't go wrong with the 5500's. Great kit.

i love it when people say stuff falls of shelving. you dont see people with proper home cinemas say that, the kind of systems that are capable of so much more pressure that a set of logitech speakers. It makes me think you lot dont know how to put your shelves up or something :p

in my old place i was using two subs in big boxes (3.5- 4.0 Cubic feet each) and i could make the opposing wall pulse at 25hz or so. you could put your hand on it and you could feel it bouncing. im talking loud, 130db loud. but nothing ever fell off a shelf lol.
