When I was a teen, there wasn't such a thing as the internet, I was outside causing mischief, riding around on my bike, or slightly later on, out in the landrover exploring the courtryside as well as getting my fingers into things I probably shouldn't have been.
But it was fun, enjoyable and healthy. Best of all you actually met people.
Like a lot of you I guess, many many hours are spent behind the keyboard whiling away the hours chatting to "chums" in forums and sifting through other interesting sights on the net while life passes you by.
Something niggles me about this.
What would you be doing right now if there was no internet.
Does it suck you in to the point of wishing you could just delete everything and walk away..

Don't get me wrong, I've learnt more through the power of the net than I ever did at school or college could have ever taught me, but sometimes just wish it wasn't there at all.
It would be interesting to know how many relationships have broken up because of having your eyes glued to the monitor too much.
How many times have you heard "can't you leave that thing alone tonight and come and talk to me?"
anyway... rambling now.
Your thoughts

Get an iPad, then you are not tied to a desk :p

I dunno how we lived without the internet. In a lot of ways I now get a LOT more done than ever before. I also waste a lot of times on forums like these, which in some ways unhealthy but in a lot of ways, i learn a lot from these places. It's an double edge sword.

So many times. I got into the ridiculous habit of spending a lot of time on the computer because my friends did.

Now I'm just stuck at knocking on the PC when I wake up and sitting here all day if I have nothing to do, rather than giving myself something to do.

You would just watch tv more. You are perfectly capable of doing all the things you said with the Internet still around yet you choose not to, this says to me you either don't want to do the other things or to lazy. So you would most likely choose to do something similar such as watching tv

If there was no internet at this present moment in time I would be working.

Im sat in work, but as you are all aware there is a difference between being sat in work and actually working.

Thank you internet :)

Well, I only sit on the net when I have nothing to do, such as now, having a quick rolli after de greasing and re applying lube to my motorbike chain before I go for a quick blast to see my mate. If I didn't have the net, I would be sat in the living room watching tv and having a rolli.

I see what you are getting at, but it's self control. At some point, someone will mention WoW so I will now... It can be addictive, but if you have a shed of self control, your life will continue as normal.

Computers don't affect my social life in a bad way at all - personally thinking. Maybe improve it with the likes of COD and Wii Archery!

In fact I lost my phone not so long ago, I send about 20+ texts a day. I didn't even notice it was gone, because I would just wait to later to talk to them.

Its up to you to use this stuff to your advantage.

I agree with OP.

I guess I am addicted to the net and gaming, I just can't stop. Weirdly I love been outside doing things, but now just seem to spend all the day browsing my life away. Sometimes I think, right im not going to go on the PC tomorrow and I am going to out to do something. This never happens and I end up on the PC again.

Before I discovered the wonders of the internet I use to be out every day doing something and now it's turned me into some lazy slob.

It does make me wonder what id be doing if there was no internet...

Despite running an online business I agree with your sentiment entirely. I am currently considering selling up and going to Oz for a year to reflect on my boring life. :D

Hmm, if I personally stopped using the internet then I'd have a lot of time to kill. It'd be very boring because nobody would be about to spend it with, they'd still all be on the internet! If everyone got rid of it then it'd be different but I'm certain having it is the best way, it's not like it stops me doing other stuff.

How many times have you heard "can't you leave that thing alone tonight and come and talk to me?"

And when you do, you have to sit there through hours and hours of eastenders/holby city/holloaks/xfactor/next top model-designer bs etc etc... quite where all the talking was supposed to happen I don't know - I guess they just like to have the option to use your attention if they want to.

Typical evening would end up like this:
mad woman: don't do that pay attention to me
me: ok, (asks question in attempt to start conversation)
mad woman: shhh! I've been waiting for the series catchup of this for a week
me: ok I'm off to do something else.
mad woman: nooo! I'll stop watching this.
me: ok (tries to engage in conversation again)
mad woman: (as eyes glaze over) mm uhuh, mmm yer, uhuh mmm..ok
me: I'm not wasting my time if all you can do is cast a sideways glance at america's next top model every 5 seconds and you plainly have no interest in conversation...
mad woman: oh you're sooo unreasonable
me: what?! so unreasonable that I expect you to look me in the eye when talking, to actually show you want attention and would not just prefer to spend all evening watching rubbish telly, which is what you really wanted anyway?

grrrrr! it was never about me giving attention to her specifically, just that my attention was not elsewhere.
lol then she'd go to bed early... not for any fun stuff mind you... 'cause I'm sooo tired' - well perhaps if you didn't get up at 5am every morning and then spend the next 2 hours watching breakfast tv, then you might have enough energy to stay awake beyond 8 or 9pm!

At least the bloody internet is generally reliable and predictably stable - unlike most women. Not to mention it contains more useful knowledge :D
