When was the last time you just went for a drive?

Not since I sold the Integra, the ST24 doesn't really excite me to just go and drive for the sake of driving. Once i get somethin a bit more exciting to replace it I'll definitely be going out for a good drive now and then. God I miss the sound of that B18C on cam, gave me tingles every time.

Driving for pleasure seems a bit of a lost art!

Turn down that road that you always wanted to know where it led.

I do this quite often. It's fun and when you get to the end usually theres a wee light bulb moment 'ahh so that's where this road goes,' since it usually takes you out to another junction which you wonder where it goes... i.e. where you just came from !

also:
Plan a little road trip to a town you've never been to, stop, have a coffee, then head back.
this is fun to do as well.

I hate that you have to be 23 to hire a car. I've often had the urge to hire something with a little more luxury and power for taking a day trip.

You don't have to be 23 to hire a car!

Just find a place that'll take the risk. I know 2 local rental places that don't mind if you're 17 and just passed yesterday (obviously you need to be 28+ to hire a Veyron or something).

One is called Elite-51, on Romford Road. I found them while I was walking along one day, just look on Yell.com or something.

Not for ages, too expensive, too risky ( fines, wear&tear on car), bad for impatience ( I hate lights...), these days I only really drive somewhere to get somewhere or for work.

What kind of roads would you recommend? I can't say I've never really been for just a drive. It's something I'd like to start doing though, get my off the Xbox.

Well if I am really in the mood for a good drive I will go down the M5 to junction 6, then head towards Evesham, then when I get there I drive back off the motorway ...it's a nice all round drive, a lot of the roads are more cruising than country lane types though. I used to search out the lanes in my earlier driving days, now I prefer bigger better surfaced roads so I can just cruise/waft.

For a shorter run I like to do I heard out towards Belbroughton down the B4188 off the A491 Stourbridge rd, then I pass out the otherside towards Drayton until I eventually get to Chaddesley Corbett, where I then get on the A448 towards Bromsgrove, that's a great road, long sweeping bends and a good surface, goes on for quite a few miles and brings you out right in Bromsgrove town centre, near Asda, I then simply drive back towards Lydiate Ash way then from there up the A38 ...or I turn around and do the A448 again ...you can follow it all the way to Kidderminster though and take a longer route.

If you want smaller B roads though there is so much choice I don't even know where to begin, just pick one and see where it goes, that's what I used to do.

Like some here I sometimes take the long way home from work but havn't actually just "gone for a drive" in years. Used to do them to clear my head or just to get away from it all from time to time, this thread does have me looking longingly at my car keys though. Maybe tomorrow night...

Incredibility rarely do I go for a drive for the heck of it, in fact I can't remember the last time (actually I lie, it was the week I bought the Soarer so about 4 months ago!).

I've always wondered that if I had a slower, more "driver orientated" car would I be more inclined to go for a hoon? I used to go out for drives regularly in my old 205 XS and then later in my E30 316i, but I'm not sure if it was because the novelty of having a driving license had not worn off or because I genuinely enjoyed driving those cars.

Didn't like using the GTI on the road whatsoever. Too powerful, uncomfortable and cold for me to want to drive it anywhere that I didn't have to.

I like driving the Soarer lots, but I'm very familiar with it, Bordering on "bored". Just driving it (certainly around town which is realistically the only thing I can do) doesn't really appeal. When crawling around town at 20MPH it certainly isn't very fun or interesting.

The roads around here are bad too. I seriously envy some of you guys with NSL A/B roads on your doorstep. I've got to drive about 45 minutes to get to some even remotely decent roads, and even then they aren't suitable to enjoy in a car with much more than 100BHP :(.

I go occasionally on Sundays up to the Lake District, either by myself or with friends.

Nothings better than going for a drive late at night with a chilled out CD on in the car though.

Where abouts in London are you mate?

Have you been on the B184? What's your opinion of it if you have been on it?

I haven't been on many B roads, so I cant really comment, but I thought it was a nice drive.

South East :).

I might give that road a go in the future, but at the end of the day it is still a 28 Mile trek for me :(.

Maybe a trip down the A2 to Bluewater, a few good roads in Greenhithe that are worth a drive every now and again. University Way is good if you just want to blat along and navaigate a few roundabouts (can be a pretty fast bit of road). Where is the B184?

Probably only twice in the last couple of years and they were both not long after I got my current car. The problem is that the Commodore just isn't fun to drive unless it's raining, and driving half an hour through Adelaide suburbs to get to the nearest decent stretch of road is just a pain in the ass.

It's a shame really, as I used to head out for a drive all the time just for the sake of it back when I had my VTR, and my 172. Maybe I need to invest in a cheap hot hatch again...?

I Drove up to Fort Augustus in My 350Z a week last Saturday and drove around the Highlands of Scotland for the next 6 days doing a total of 1800 mile which works out at 300 mile a day. Would you class that as a drive?

Around 3/4 weeks ago I drove up to hartside with some friends. Great road.

Recently I havent used the car at all as I simply can not afford it. Otherwise, and before I become financially empty, I used to quite often.

Most of the time at night as its just so relaxing and theres nobody else about.
