Would you risk a friendship for a relationship?

Lets say you had a really good friendship with a girl you were close to, and things started getting serious between you, would you risk that friendship to try a relationship?

Im in the situation were i can start a relationship with a really close friend and it could be awesome or it could go wrong and i would lose the freindship i have with her.

So what would you do?

Been there it lasted about 2 months, we no longer talk.

Not saying they never work but if they don't it's very hard to go back.

Why not? You might gain a great relationship from it.

And also even if it don't work out, if you had a really good friendship before you could probably still stay friends afterwards.

i know i might gain a great relationship, but i could potentially lose a great friendship too.

I'd go for it. But would agree from the start that if things go wrong, you'll both do your best to keep the friendship. Life is too short not to take risks.

I've never quite agreed with that. You could for instance do something silly which causes permanent damage to your person in some manner. You'd be pretty welcome to regret doing the silly thing.

I did this on and off for about a year with one of my best friends (she was out the country for a lot of the year). Had some good times but we realised it wasn't going anywhere and decided to try and save a friendship and stopped. Took a year or so to get back to where we were before but we are still pretty good friends. Was pretty hard going back though, however if you're already doing the horizontal tango then there really isn't a choice.

Get together and try it or one of you will find someone else and a whole world of hurt will open up...
