Mini Cooper advise.

Oh, you mean kraut. As far as I know only the owners of the brand are German though and the 'new' Mini is made here? In that case my 2000 'old' Mini Cooper was also a kraut Mini as BMW owned Rover then too?

I musr learn to spell Kraut. :)

The real mini was never a German one, all they did was put on 13" wheels and bodykit.

Any real mini owner will say the same thing new mini is Kraut one.

Nope. I mean the 2005 Facelift (I.E Mine)

The Gearbox was changed from the midlands Box to a geartrag (SP) one in said facelift :)
Well that's good to know!
Even more reason to get a facelift then. Time to start saving :p

OP - I'd drop the MINI idea and get something cheap and cheerful. Once you've saved up, splash out on a Cooper S.
Unless you could live with a Mini One..

Did BMW also design it back in the 1950's as well?

Why the hostility for the new MINI almost all cars evolve over the years. I love the original mini yet I can appreciate what BMW have done with the new one.

WTF?

Get out of motors now, do not pass go, do not collect your coat and do not return :D

It was of course designed by Sir Alec Issigonis who got his Knighthood FOR designing the original mini.

The hostility is because its not exactly evolved. The original ethos has been abandoned entirely and the mini name used as a fashion label. None of the original principles of ingenious design, compactness, light weight etc.. have been preserved.

Not that i mind it actually, i quite like the new mini. But thats the reason the mini fans hate it.

It's hardly been abandoned the original design was around for a stupidly long time so the car never really evolved. It would be like VW going from the mk1 golf straight to the mk6. Times have moved on and so has car design. The new MINI is a fun good little car just like the original.

i dont think the mini fans wanted the car to move on in the way it has. The new mini has nothing in common with the old one.

They could have evolved it but kept more in common with the old car than they did.

Even if BMW could not call it a mini and called it a BMW 'Whatever' it would still be one of the most successful small cars ever. It has a lot going for it, its small looks good, the same as the fiat 500 small and good looking.

The wife has had two minis, a cooper park lane and a cooper s sidewalk, both cracking cars and good fun to drive.

I'm a massive fan of old Minis, I used to race the things (Mini Se7ens) and I owned a couple of road ones. I think your sarcasm is being directed somewhat incorrectly. ;)

Read again Sherlock, I was being sarcastic :p

Wicksta was suggesting that the place a car is built is more important than the location of the brand/designers etc in determining it's origin. I'm just refuting that; if the MINI is British so is the Nissan Micra, Toyota Avensis, Honda Civic etc. yet how many would suggest these are British cars?

Yes of course they did, it was hardly Rover! The chief designer was a guy called Frank Stephenson who worked for BMW.

It was only a question, no need for the patronising 'of course!!' response. Heck I probably know more about Minis than the average man on the street but I couldn't recall offhand whether it was a Rover or BMW designer who penned the new Mini, mainly because it's not a car that really interests me unlike the old model. No need to be so snippy/aggressive when posting an answer to a question. :)

Because the Cooper is cheaper to run and insure than a Cooper S, so the 21 year old girls who normally buy these cars opt for the Cooper as they don't need the extra performance!

21 year old girls don't "buy" Mini Coopers.

Daddy does, every single time.

Hi again guys.

Just wondering, would the clio 172 be a more sensible option. I just did a quick ebay check and you seem to get a bit more for your money?

Id take one over a mini every time.

Depends what your after if you like all the funky things in the mini then you might think the interior of the clio is realy bland but the 172 is a good value car at the moment.

Plus you wont look like a homo
