You'll struggle to find a better example of value for money!

Shame it's not a manual, what is the auto 'box like on these?

When you say 'thirsty' are you implying 20mpg?

When I had my 3.0l many years ago, I was so pleased to see 30mpg for the first time I actually took a photo. 18-20mpg around town and 26mpg on a run was more achievable.

The auto box is fine. I can't see why you would possibly want a manual. Trust me, it's not a car for 'enthusiastic' driving ;).

i thought the elite spec was the dogs ********, wheres the leather?

From what I remember reading, the Elites did come with leather as standard by you could "downgrade" to cloth if you had no style, taste or desire for any comfort for free .

Just a heads up from a fellow Omega owner. I've been running around for nearly a year in a 2.6 MV6. I've bunged on just over 30k in a year and she is taking the mileage well. Get yourself sorted with a trade card as parts and oil become very cheap.

Couple of words of warning, has the cam belt been done? At 74k, it is potentially due at 80k. Do not go over this if it hasn't been done. If you do it yourself then the belt kit, pulleys and water pump will set you back in the region of £120. They are picky on oil changes, with the price of trade club oil it's recommended to do each 5k. Granted vauxhall say 10k but that's upto you :)

Get yourself over to the owners club. There are bucket loads of how-to's with all the common tasks.

Nice.

In my opinion this is the single decent car Vauxhall have made in the last 15 years. Anything else they've sold that isn't rubbish was made by somebody else and all Vauxhall did was stick the badge on.

Great buy.

Just out of interest, what sort of features does the little screen/on board computer offer? Is it just a basic old school trip computer or can it do other stuff as well? Is the Nav system played through it?

The screen displays all the media and sat nav info plus a host of trip readings, oh and the phone feature. The settings for the radio are really quite extensive, a bit ott imo with lots of FM, MW and LW options. Screen also allows you to select between 5 different CDs. The sat nav and phone I have not explored as I need to get hold of the discs and sim card. Apart from the normal trip readings it also gives you the temperature outside like you'd expect. You can scroll between all these screens with the steering wheel controls quite quickly, but sometimes the controls on the dash are quicker to use.

I've only ever owned manuals before this car, but having driven and now owning the car. It is most definitely suited to a slushbox and for wafting, not really something to attack your local b roads with at all. I average around 25mpg with a lot of mixed driving, urban is closer to 20mpg and with motorway driving bringing it up to 30mpg.

How do I get a trade card, without actually being in the trade?

The cam belt I checked upon purchase, it was last changed 5k ago (full kit) at the end of last year with a service and replacement exhaust was also fitted. So should hopefully serve me well.

Signed up to the owners forum yesterday after posting this thread. Seems very helpful and friendly on there. Thanks for the advice!

+1

Tbh I was a bit surprised the OP's Dad thought he'd got a lot of car for the money - the e38 7 is right up there with it in the "Bang for buck" league....

But yes, he's absolutely spot on, what a lot of car for little money. :)

Never driven one of these, but had the pleasure of being a passenger on more than one occasion, and the ride is sublime. Hope you enjoy it!

Very true, coming from a somewhat VX fanboy.

The old man has moved from one to a Mondeo. He regrets it in some ways, the Omega was much comfier and nicer to drive. But the Mondeo is a bit easier on the wallet.

Not quite the same but my dad had a Carlton GSi 24v and it was cracking fun. He actually bought 2 for his business and gave on to someone else and I remember when said person left his business we drove over to his house to collect his car on a Saturday morning and me and dad hair arsed cross country in 24v GSi's. Great fun and cracking car too, even if it did kept getting people trying to steal it!

Senators were a good old wafter too, them were the days :)

Looks like a lovely example mate.

My dad has the pre-facelift 2.5 V6 manual which is getting on a bit now (V reg, 130k miles). He uses the Omega as a workhorse (carrying tools, towing etc) and the E60 for every-day driving.

The Omega costs more to run/maintain that the E60 and it certainly isn't a 'drivers car' but it still puts a smile on your face. He's had it for yonks and it really is part of the family. I don't think we'll get rid of it unless something catastrophic goes wrong with it.

Nice buy, enjoy.

Lovely. What a lot of car for the money.
As Fox said, the last good car that Vauxhall made. I never actually got to own one though, something I regret.

Cheers, just some north yorkshire moors local to me.

Link of location :)

Cheers, the scenery almost looks desertish, and the road looks yummy! no speed cameras?

Nice road to put your foot down in a 3.2 v6. ;)

this is gonna on my "scenic road to drive on" list. :D
