Hello Folks,

I am just gearing up to pre-order Civ5 in time for its release on the 24th.

Depending on which distribution channel to purchase from it looks like I will end up with a different bonus map pack.

Ideally I would like to buy the Collectors Edition with all the artwork, however this version seems to lack any of the map packs. Will these map packs be available after purchase as DLC?
Seems silly that the collectors edition does not have all of them included.

The maps seem pointless to me, the game has a map editor, doesn't it? So what's to stop people recreating the maps in there and distributing them freely?

grrr dlc content before its even released ffs

+1

If you preorder a game, you're supporting a trend that's rogering PC gaming. Pre-order, like pre-release dlc (and the two usually go hand-in-hand) is the devil. I love Civ. I will more than likely buy Civ5. I will under no circumstances however prepurchase it, regardless of the incentives given and urge you not to either.

I can't even remember how old I was, probably around 9 or 10, playing the first civ on my amiga 500 with the 12 disks that required you to swap 3-4 inbetween turns, waiting for each to load, as well swap anytime anything significant happened during your turn. Epic.

Now 26 with Civ5 on the verge of release; life is made of win!

As you're 26 you should know better than saying things like "life is made of win". It's idiotic and nonsensical. If you hadn't posted your age I would have assumed you were 14 and not bothered with this rant.

I'm a healthy 26 year old who gets to spend most of his free time doing as he pleases, playing games being the main one of these, the civilization series being a particular favourite, how else should I abstractly describe what my life thus far to be made of?

Neither your health nor you gaming prefrences are in question here. We're both healthy Civ fans... Excellent. But for god's sake man, express yourself in a manner becoming of your age. Referring to something as "win" or "fail" is moronic. If you use those in everyday life people are going to look at you like you're a little touched in the head... And quite rightly!

It's a gaming section of a forum not a meeting with my bank branch's manager...

Fail post.

Ok, I might have gone a bit OTT but I just can't understand it. That and referring to a gaming character as a "Toon". What the hell is that about?

Anyhow, this derailment has become a failure of epic preportions as I believe people are saying nowerdays.

'Epic fail' would have sufficed!

So they want us to Pre-Order the Post-Release DLC before the game's been released......AAAAGH mindburn :(:(:(

Anyway I'm probably happy with generated maps, not often I play any set maps on Civ 4 :o plus as said above, if the map editor's included then what's the point :p

And you know for a fact that fans are more anal than developers. Whatever maps are included will be quickly superseded by more accurate ones.

I always do random maps so not fussed in the least by all this. Will just buy once it's got cheap even though it's probably the game I'm most looking forward to. Got about 1000 games to play through still that I haven't even started...:/

I feel your pain. I'm not allowing myself to play any new games until I complete the one's I have outstanding. I'm currently 'trying' to complete The Witcher (I will finish it and I will enjoy it even if it kills me!).

Don't think you'll get much sympathy here, boss.

I'm 30 and I use words such as "dude"; phrases such as "epic fail" and "***", and other such expressions no doubt popularised by 4chan.

As long as people can 1)capitalise properly, 2)punctuate properly and 3)refrain from txt sp33k, they can express themselves however they like.
