OH NOES! He bought a DIESEL!

Next week, Fox finances a Corsa 1.3CDi and Moeks buys a Series II Land Rover on a whim.

May be. Talk to me about it. How much? What sort of power gains?

"+50 BHP, +135Nm Torque, improved throttle response, smoother delivery, improved economy. £499"

Evolve have a great reputation :). They'll do you a proper map on the RR too instead of some dodgy bloke that just turns up to your drive and plugs his laptop in without a clue how your engine's running!
There's also another good lot but I can't remember their name, Southampton way I think.

Great purchase - can't believe how much car you can get for this price. Interior looks bland, but then again they all do in black just like mine does. I reckon the engine is good for the car if you're not planning on being a traffic light hero.

Well done!

What are the servicing costs for a car of this size?

Depending on mileage running costs can be epic and can be pretty reasonable.

Servicing I'd imagine would be pretty close to any x30d BMW car from this generation.

It's when stuff starts going wrong you need to be worried.

That's impressive for £500. My only concern would be reliability afterwards.

Damn it, I'll have to think of something else now, you've ruined the surprise.

I love the column mounted gear selector on the E65, I don't know why more cars don't have this. Should have gotten one with cream leather though :p

Remapped diseasels get through clutches a bit quicker, but that's about it really. Turbot should last pretty much the same as normal.

One other good thing about Evolve:
Manufacturer Warranties: said:
ECU remaps cannot be seen by dealer level equipment. However, this does not mean a remap is invisibile. No remap is invisible. If a manufacturer wants to check an ECU they will find out immediately if the DME programme has been changed and for those cars under warranty this can cause a problem. We offer a warranty where if your warranty is invalided then Evolve will undertake the full cost of repair. So you have nothing to worry about when brining your car to us for engine managment upgrades. Minor Terms and conditions apply - please contact us for more information.

so whats your impression of the diesel lump after a few days given your previous views on diesels?

I don't get the car until Saturday.
I drove about 20 miles on my test drive with a mixture of A and B roads. These were my impressions:

Sound:
Outside, like a bag of spanners in a washing machine
Inside, like a bag of spanners in a washing machine wrapped in a 15 tog duvet
On full throttle acceleration it doesn't sound too bad to be honest and is pretty quiet. Don't get me wrong, it's nowhere near as refined as a V8 or V12 but it's not unacceptably harsh either.

Power:
The lazy, low down torquey nature of the engine does seem to suit the car. A few times when I was expecting the auto-box to chose a lower cog, it didn't, and just pulled cleanly.
0-60 was about 7.6 seconds so not fast by any stretch of the imagination, but fast enough to worry most hot hatches.

Economy:
35mpg average. You can't really complain.
