Alan Wake appreciation thread

Getting to Da Choppa!!!! With the sheriff at the moment :D Just having a quick break after the fight outside of the church. Larry makes me laugh. It's been a while since I can actually connect with the characters in a game.

Yeah, it made me chuckle when Larry appeared with those fairy lights wrapped around him. :D

What? lol, not got to that lol. Right, quick cigarette, cup of tea and a choc biscuit then back in :D First time I have wasted a week day on a game in a long time.

It was a good game and I really enjoyed it but had it been release when it was supposed to be release (Launch title anyone) then it would have been ground breaking, a proper genre defining game. As it is you kinda feel like a lot of the stuff has been done better since.

Still well worth playing and definitly under sold at release.

Brilliant! Fairy lamps are awsome :D

Also, walking up to the chopper:

Larry: "Hey, like my headlamp? It's like the flaming eye or Mordor!" lol. Made me chuckle :D

Got stuck on a point with those little things in the sewers (when you fall through the floor after getting the time bubble thing...), they look like the little poppers from the Flood in Halo. Any advice on how to pass them? I'm playing on hard lol.

Use the time bubble power thingy (can't remember the name, was weeks ago that I played this) where they spawn to keep them in one place, then nail them with any old weapon you have.

I should also mention that I did like the way it was in Episodes like a TV show, which made it good places to stop playing, also some of the music they used was fantastic for them.

One more thing about the story... don't think it's too much of a spoiler, as it's early in the game.

But.... Why would you get yourself totally wasted and pass out if you were more than a little worried about there being something particularly bad hunting you outside?!

Because the booze was homebrew made from water from the lake and it gave you visions (like the Asgard bros.).

Also, yeah as someone mentioned, the soundtrack to the game is top notch.

Was a little disappointed that the sound track CD that came with the SE didn't have all the licensed music on it as well though, only the stuff composed for the game. Shame.

'Lady of the Lake' is a cracking choon though :D

Yeah I was disappointed in that also, I was looking forward to blasting Lady of the Lake lol.

But I have enjoyed reading the book that came with the SE.

Well, completed :D Nightmarish mode unlocked. That should keep me busy some weekend in the future.

Ending was a little anti climax, but overall, I thoroughly enjoyed it and looking forward to my next play through :D

Will have to collect everything on my next playthrough as well.

Question: I am guessing that there is going to be a squeal? I mean, the 2 main chars (trying not to give anything away) have switched realities? If you know what I mean.

Nightmare mode is the best way to play the game, they should have made it accessible from the start.

You actually have a chance of running out of ammo/batteries and having to leg it to the next light, enemies deal a good chunk of damage to you, and are much harder to kill.

Makes the experience much more 'thrilling' :D

One thing I really wish they didn't do is the slow mo motion capture when enemies surfaced. So many times I thought that if that wasn't in the game, I would have cacked my pants 10 times more and would have been MUCH warier about the environment.

Hopefully it will go for the second one :D

loved the story, hated the gameplay really really monotonous, and dont get me started on the enemys suddenly popping up behind you.

not enough effort was put into combat imo, should have been epic and the start of a great new franchise (probably why the sales figures were so low). never gonna touch the DLC even though its free.
