Any experience of really nice seaside locations in travelling distance from the midlands?

That's a pretty open ended question I know but I'd prefer upmarket, nice beach, nice area, potentially sunny in a few weeks (I know I'm pushing my luck).

So, no suggestions of Skegness or Blackpool please. ;)

Torbados!

on second thought, if Cornwall isn't to far there are plenty of nice places, Bude comes to mind.

dullas bay beach in angleseye is a gem... you won't find anyone there.. although its fairly hard to get to... or the gower for somewhere more populated, and go to Verdi's ice cream parlour/restaurant- my family has been known to go there just for the day, and we live in the midlands aswell

Margate has a nice beach, Ramsgate has a great beach, good bars/cafes along the front,

whats wrong with them?

If you think that, then somehow I cannot see us agreeing about much. Margate and Ramsgate are well known ****holes. Even the people that live there says so. I'm pretty sure there was a piece in the newspaper a few months ago about how derelict and scummy those places have become. I spent a long time doing contract work through Kent. From Sittingbourne through to Dover and along the coast, Whitstable, Hernebay to Broadstairs. I did not see one place I'd want to spend 3 hours visiting. Ugly beach fronts, boarded shops and cheap tat 'entertainment' venues. It is a shame really. Those places used to be proper Cockney rowdiness, but the last 5-15 years with the rise of budget holidays abroad, people prefer Spain to Margate.

St Ives or Perranporth are nice, avoid Newquay like the plague.

Not too bad here in Torbay either, 3 towns for the price of 1 :p

You can't beat the English Riviera. Torquay has a lot there, beach wise I love Dawlish Warren. Highcliffe beach at Christchurch near Bournemouth is also nice.
