I'm reading up on the Atkins diet, the site itself and other resources but the recipes seem to be for more than one and have grand titles with ingredients my dad won't buy just for me...

Do OcUK members have any simple daily breakfast/lunch/dinner meals for one that they have used as part of their Atkins diet?

It's pretty confusing what I'm reading here....

Thanks for any help!

Don't. The rest of my family did it years ago when it was fashionable. You smell of bacon, fart, and are tired out. (I might be exaggerating slightly:p). I'm currently in the middle of a standard reduce calorie diet and I'm dropping weight just as quick as they did without sweating cheese.

exercise tubby - stupid diet anyway, why do women think 'diets' are temporary solution to a permanent problem?

How tall are you and how much do you weigh AmTechFox?

Do you do any exercise at all?

I'm disabled, so daily exercise isn't really an option (Rheumatoid Arthritis), plus I'm like 5'1" and weight as of last night 10.13 stone!

The thing is, I know what are good foods and what are bad foods but I cannot get my weight loss going thats why I thought a 2-4 week Atkins diet then a healthier diet thereafter would be a good idea to burn off a chunk of my body fat straight away then continue to eat healthy.

Early part of last year I went on a 2 month diet, really stuck too it cutting out fizzy drinks and high fat foods, skimmed milk etc..and the weight wouldn't move, lost like 4-6lbs in total.

Resulted in me giving up, now I'd like to try this and see how it goes.

You need a certain heartrate to lose fat i thought
I believe your meant to double your resting heart rate for half an hour to achieve a training heart rate. I wasn't aware that losing fat was anything other than burning more calories than are available.

Fad diets don't work. A diet is not just food, it's your daily way of life, it's a routine. 0 or low carbing consistently is not really sensible or worthwhile. Changing your lifestyle is a much more effective way of lowering fat permanently. Problem is people do the Atikins or other fad diets for a short period of time, get results, but then don't progressively re-introduce a varied diet and they start storing fat rather than using the carbs as energy. We have many of these threads in the SA - it's far more sensible to keep a varied diet cutting out the crap, and understanding what you're eating, how it affects you and adding some exercise and activity into your life.

Start by eleminating simple carbs, and ensuring you get a good amount of protein and good fats (fish, avocados etc...). Good carbs such as wholemeal pastas, sweet potatoes, wild/brown rice are absolutely fine. Try keeping carbs away from your evening meal but in the morning and around periods of activity (exercise). Try cutting your meals down in size and perhaps eat a little more regularly. Use smaller plates - it's psychological but seeing a full plate does leave you "fuller".

You lost 4-6 pounds in 2 months and stopped? Why? If that was early last year you'd be a beanpole by now.

Sounds like you need to stop giving up not find a new fad diet.

Do you know how it makes you loss weight on atkins? It really doesn't have anything to do with eating less carbs strangely.

The vast amounts of protein somehow (thou they don't understand how yet) make you less hungry. In effect it makes you eat fewer calories so you loss weight.

Most of the things that people talk about that the diet causes like ketosis are rarely seen on test subjects. Atkins is only magic in that it takes the will power part out by somehow making you feel fuller / not hungry.

One tip I can give you is not to do an Atkins diet.

very useful information, do you want to expand?

on the atkins myself, lost a lot of weight over the last 6 weeks

im down 3 belt notches, shirts that were too small are now plenty big enough..

My favorite dinner is
1/3rd of a letice (chopped),
some chicken,
a few jalipinos,
some sliced pepper,
a boiled egg
chopped celery
cucumber
some sun flower seeds
small spoon of mayo and french salad dressing...

a quick snack

slice of cucumber
some cream cheese on top
a bit of smoked salomon
some letice...
and a bit oc cucumber on top...

or

some smoked cheese, with a jalipino pepper (or 2), and letice wrapped in a slice of ham / chicken or beef

and I love the cheap 17p 2l bottles of tesco's fizzy water... stops me craving something nice to drink...

Frankly there's no such thing as good and bad foods, just a balanced diet and besides the "good" foods may be calorific as hell and not help in weight loss at all. For someone who can't do exercise I would just say that they need to rethink their whole lifestyle and what they eat day to day and not just some temporary solution.

Even then don't expect drastic results, the formula for losing weight is quite simple really, to lose a pound of weight you need a 3500 calorie deficit. Then just need to have simple understanding of what different energy types do (carbs, proteins, etc) and go about changing your day to day eating habits. As a rule of thumb just try to avoid loading up on carbs and fats in the evening and also try spreading your meals into smaller portions across the day. Also some vegetables such as carrots, cucumbers, salads have few calories in them so can eat those with no fear.
