Because it's rude not to. :p

Can I reserve the right not to respect the ones that get angry and threaten violence over things like cartoons and book burnings? Can I also reserve the right to not have to respect the religion itself as it has some rather dubious bits I am not overly keen on?

Yes... However that doesn't mean you burn their sacred literature? Especially when it is just to be politically inflammatory (pun not intended).

you don't need to ask, just do - i do.

However I wouldn't publicly burn a Qur'an bible just to be bitter about ****.

What I would do instead is strap 10lbs of C4 to my chest and walk in to the nearest mosque and blow myself up killing men and children alike.

This way I will go to heaven and have 21 virgins waiting for me.

You can do whatever you want, but if you disrespect someone simply because of their belief when they have done nothing to you then it's rude.

As for Islam, you don't have have to like it, but you should respect anothers right to believe.

You don't have to agree with something to show it respect.

Of course, before you get all belligerent and start giving examples, respect flows both ways, they must also respect you and your beliefs whatever they are.

To give a little perspective, do I respect Muslims in general, sure, do I respect the scumbag insurgents who shot me, not on your life.

Disrespecting anyone simply because they are a Muslim is wrong.

would christians get violent if loads of bibles where burnt ? doubtful

im pretty sure some BNP nobbers who last went to church when they where a baby would do though. the same thing happens in muslim countries.

if someone wants to burn the Koran then I won't stop them or moan like a little school girl.

Why not make a placard suggesting how bad the west is and how much you want us to come to a sticky end and lose our heads and burn flags, seems the normal reaction for this type of thing.

Angry is something Muslims seem to do well.

the last time I told someone on the net I used bibles for firewood he said I'd burn forever in hell for it. Maybe that's not as bad as violence but thats a pretty bad threat considering he has no evidence that I will do.

that's not a threat though, unless you are religious?

If someone said that to me my answer would be "Yeah, that would be the case if it wasn't a load of fabricated bull"

I never said I did disrespect someone simply because of their belief.

I do, shame the religion in question isn't quite so respectful.

You don't have to agree with something to show it respect.

I am going to have to disagree with you here. I do not have to show Islam itself any respect due to some of the beliefs it holds. I respect the right of people to follow it if they wish, but I do not see why I should respect it itself when I find parts of it disgusting. Much like I would respect the right of the BNP to exist, people to be members and for them to follow their ideology without ever respecting the BNP.

Freedom of expression seems low down on their list of things to respect though...
