Pro Evolution 2011

OK my first thoughts - please remember Ive only played the recent FIFAs and PES demos so I think Im gonna have to compare it to FIFA so expect some bias.

I truly cant see what theyve improved in this release over last years - though obviously I played 2010 demo a while ago but on the basis of that I didnt buy the game and this year the same has happened.

The gameplay feels far more stuttery than FIFA - players look awkward at times and animations just dont seem to flow well (when they run it appears they are floating still :/). It has some weird bug where if you pass into space the receiving player becomes Usain Bolt to attempt to get to it but when you make them sprint they are never as fast. I do expect it plays a more realistic game (passing and shooting is far more unforgiving) of football but at the expense of fun, scoring goals is harder than FIFA but Im still left with that empty feeling inside...

The presentation and layout of the menus etc is just awful - I thought FIFA was bad but this is far worse - I had to wait til the game started before being able to check the controls. Customisability is I guess its strong point, but Ive not played enough or tinkered with settings to see if they make a difference...

Im no PES expert so hopefully someone who plays this more often might shed more/better light...

EDIT: Hate the unskippable video!!!
EDIT2: Forgot to say one of the trick moves is a Dive and button mashing links normally works :/

So unsurprisingly its not much differnt to the last one :( Makes me sad as a former PES fan but looks like it'l be a fifa year again for me.

I have to say I agree with those comments, especially the sprinting 'bug'. It's exactly as you described, off the ball players are incredibly fast, but on the ball it feels as if they are running through treacle, in fact the whole game feels like it's in slow motion, as expressed above I'm sure this translates as a more realistic game of football but it lacks fun, it hasn't entertained me and I feel completely empty when scoring a goal, in contrast to FIFA where I actually feel pleased.

The graphics are excellent and it's a shame that the presentation is let down hugely by the absolutely shocking running, stopping and turning animations because the shooting animations and the passing animations are fairly realistic. I haven't got very much else to add, I've only played 5 games, I too am annoyed at the unskippable videos at the end of the match, it's quicker to go back to the XMB than it is to sit through them all. There's one thing I love about this game and that's the replay after scoring a goal, the whole motion blur effect is great and it's something EA Sports should look at implementing, that said the rest of the game feels really boring and flat in comparison to the much quicker, higher tempo stylings of FIFA. I've no doubt PES is the more realistic of the two, but there needs to be a balance between realism and fun and my experiences with the demo have been average at best.

Well from that, it sounds quite poor.

FIFA will be solid, more of the same building on a very decent football engine, PES have just lost it.

oh no it sounds bad. i am a former pes fanboi. pes10 was the last straw. sure it looks glorious. but gameplay:/

most of my mates made the switch from PES to Fifa last time. this could be my time to jump ship too...

I've given up PES. I been playing it since the PS1 days and have stopped several years ago. My biggest problem with the game was the dribbling. To me it felt like the old FIFA dribbling like in the World Cup 98 edition. That literally turned me off playing the game. I haven't played the FIFA series in recent years but I may give it a go since I have been hearing good things about it.

I swear the review summary link in the FIFA thread said that the FIFA celebrations this year are meant to be the best thing - Im hoping the whole sweeping camera from WC is still there aswell as a more film like automatic replay...

@all - hopefully Im just wrong regards PES, Ive only scratched the surface but can appreciate that some people could enjoy it - I just cant because its too hard not to compare it to FIFA. Be good to hear more comments...

P.S. If you repeatedly press the sprint button some players animations make them look like Sheldon with his Flash costume on - Zoom zoom...

I never got around to playing PES10. Got FIFA10 because FIFA09 was quite good. Apart from 360 degree dribbling, I fully believe FIFA10 was a step backwards.

I agree with this, but Fifa 10 was still far better than Pro 10. It sounds like both are upping their game for this installment though, so I'll be interested to see how they both turn out.

From what I've read, there will be much less ping pong football in Fifa 11. They're working on a pass system which requires much more manual involvement.

Running with the ball is like a baby swimming in cement, you feel like you're going nowhere.

It feels like there is no freedom of play, I really didn't like it.

The only thing I can say I enjoyed was a few of the camera angles in the game and watching the players running like a chubby kid playing wii sports

Does it come up in your PSN Store download history?

If it does, would be nice to temp share someones PSN just to get the demo a week early.

Has nobody tried to adjust gamespeed in settings ?

I seen people complain about this elsewhere but then adjusted speed only to find much better. From video i seen so far it looks good i dont think they got it quite right this year but looks improvement and playable at least over last year trash.

Seems still issues with linking of animations and still looks abit ropey i think 2012 will be interesting at least effort being put in now.

few videos

First game, first impression.

Really enjoyed it! The passing is really nice and feels rewarding when you beat the offside trap rather than a certainty like in FIFA.

Love the skills too. Messi was like Raptor Jesus in and around the box.

Definite purchase for me.

I read that default speed is slower then PES 2010 but similar to PES 5 which was last time i liked PES from all i seen it seems finally a good PES again.

I doubt anyones going to share their main proper account - since thats the likely one that PSN+ is registered too...
