He was given every chance to apologise. But on the Today programme yesterday, the world heavyweight champion, David Haye, seemed unrepentant. On Tuesday, publicising his upcoming bout against Audley Harrison, he promised to "violate" his opponent, adding that the match would be as "one-sided as a gang rape".

LOL

An example of so-called rape talk? Coming out of an exercise class recently, a guy turned to one of my friends, sweating and breathless, and heaved a sigh of satisfied exhaustion. "Wow, that was just like being raped, wasn't it?"

Wtf. :p

What's everyone's views on this? Offensive or acceptable?

Personally I use the word all the time.

It's the desensitisation of the language, been going on for a while!

As an example, when I was growing up the "F" word was the absolute worst thing you could say. Now I hear it more often than I care to think of. The "C" word is probably the last bastion of taboo language though that's banded around like it's going out fashion as well.

Not saying that the word rape is a "bad" word in itself, but it's another example of how society as a whole views crime and it's connotations. Blame Frankie Boyle, it's his fault. He's turned the words rape and paedophilia into a comedic art form. Until it happens to them or someone they love of course.

It's only the degradation of the English language, don't worry.

My wife uses 'devastated' all the time, "ohh I missed Corry last night I was devastated" I shudder to think what she would feel when something serious happens.

The word Rape is not just limited to it's sexual context. It can refer to despoiling or seizure or abuse of anything.

Like the word Gay being used to mean rubbish, it its seen as contextually offensive by some people, that is not to say that the intent was to offend and I think that the use of any word with multiple meanings should be assessed on the intent and not the use.

Isn't rape seed the origin of this word anyway?

How do rape farmers feel? I bet marketting that is abit hard!
