Dog attacks toddler.

Toddler gets mauled by a Collie: 200 stitches.
Toddler gets mauled by a Rott/Staff/other Devil Dog: Dead.

This is why some breeds must be considered more dangerous than others, and why everyone should be aware of the dangers of owning any breed of dog.

Is this kind of thing becoming more common or just reported more?
Worrying and tragic either way :(

Leaving a child of that age with a dog that isn't used to children pulling it's ears/stroking it too roughly/etc is just asking for trouble.

I agree.

Kids that age dont just stroke a dog. They nip etc to experiment.

The dog probably felt threatend.

Any dog, no matter if its been in the family for 10 years and is soft can attack a young child, dogs are pack animals and will happly maul/bite a child as saying "back down I am above you"

Parents and grandparents should never ever leave a childs side with a dog in the room or garden.

Hey look an anti! Your rott/staff/devil dog comment is stupid at best. My dogs which is one of those breeds and one is a X with pit bull both get pulled about , stroked really hard and have never caused a child that does it 1 stich let alone 200 or a death!
Owner of the dog is always to blame, never the animal.

Everytime i see something like this, the child/baby is always with a grandmother. Are they secretly herding ''devils dogs'' and some sort of evil master plan.

its all about the owner ( for those that think some dogs are more dangerous than others )

Lies.

It's a shame, the kid shouldn't have been allowed near the dog on its own, it's a dog, it still has the potential to cause harm no matter how safe you think it is.

lol I have noticed this also.

I think its because they are less able to protect the children when something happens, and so the injuries are worse and it is more likely to be reported.

I know someone when I was younger who was attacked by a Rottweiler.. she survived thankfully. Her face afterwards was pretty messed as you'd imagine. She lives a normal life now though. Really nice girl.

"Joshua was stroking the sheep dog

yeah sure he was just pleasantly stroking it not annoying the hell out the thing.

Why do people leave a child alone with a dog?

Treat it like a gun, it's not going to hurt the child on it's own but if the child starts messing with it bad things can happen, not always but they can.

It can be either the blame of the owner (in the case of an ill-tempered or mistreated dog), or -- what many people seem to forget -- the basic nature of the animal itself.

Young children should NEVER be left unsupervised with an animal. No matter how much you're convinced nothing will happen. NO exceptions.
