LOTRO now free to play!

In Europe? I thought it was delayed due to Codemasters being very crappy at what they do. I definitely plan on waiting for the European servers to open as I would do a new character anyway if I now started playing on US servers.

No in Europe it has been delayed and no date has been given, but it is now F2P in US, but frankly it isn't worth it, they block out pretty much the entire game once you leave the starter zones and there are much better games out there which are F2P.

I think LOTRO F2P will be sufficient enough for casual gamers. If you need to upgrade, you will, most people will be fine with buying a few things from the store I would think.

LOTRO US has gone Free-to-Play yesterday, European version was delayed unfortunately. Can't deal with US pings so no thank you for now.

Out of curiosity, what makes you say that?

They dont block out after the starter zones at all, you get all of the shire, bree-land and ered luin, thats everything needed to reach around level 22-25. You also have access to the other zones and complete access to the epic quest line, if you want to do the quests in further zones then you need to get the quest packs for each zone, however as you play you build up turbine points which you can use to buy the quest packs for the zones. The next logical zone after those three would be Lone-Lands which is 350tps and easily achievable through free-play.

On top of that of course, the points you build up are shareable across your characters, so if you have 2 or 3 different characters (which a player probably will as they try different classes), then you have the combined point total of all those to spend on a "main" character if you so wish. Another good idea would be to simply subscribe for 1 month and get the 500 free tps for doing so and then stop your subscription, gives you a nice leg up to start with. Alternatively the smallest amount of TPs to reach level 50 is 1540pts, so you could always just subscribe for 3 months (which would give you 1500 free tps) and then cancel the subscription. (with the added bonus that as a former subscriber you would then be a premium player rather than a free player and have the bonuses that comes with being premium status)

Perhaps I am biased but I frankly cannot think of any F2P MMOs which I would consider "much better" than LOTRO. Tbh, theres not all that many P2P MMOs which I would consider "much better" than LOTRO, let alone free ones :)

Im looking forward to F2P, i bought LOTRO and Moria but got bored of it and couldnt really justify monthly fee, i should get some turbine points for being a subscriber and still have my level 50odd character to play with when its finally released.

im logged in without a subscrption active so it must be free in the EU?

There is a message on the launcher stating it's delayed to sort out the store.

Codemasters Online today announces that the launch of The Lord of the Rings Online (LOTRO) Free to Play Store and the latest content, Book 2; Ride of the Grey Company will now launch across Europe later than expected.

"We are really pleased with the performance of the game and excited about the response to Free to Play from our players." said Mike Rowland, Producer of LOTRO. "Given the complexities and challenges faced in the preparation and implementation of the new store to work within our infrastructure, we feel more time is needed to deliver the high level of service our players have quite rightly come to expect. As a result, we have decided to delay launch to ensure that we can support the massive increase in players that we are anticipating and deliver them a Free to Play experience like none other."

I should really get back into this again i bought it when it was on £75 life offer

Could you be anymore mixed up? The problem lies on the US servers, that's where the release went live first only to completely mess up. Put simply the US servers beta test anything the EU gets, I'd much rather be on an EU server. If you think service is better on the US servers too you are in for one nasty surprise! :(

You'll get VIP status once it goes live and free turbine points each month which other folks have to pay for :D The game has vastly improved since I last played it a couple of years ago, leveling now is actually fun and much quicker with more intelligent quests etc.
