Anyone else affected, my premium last year was £593 with Halifax for a 3 year old Mazda 3 Sport, Over 30 with 4 years no claims. My Quote today going for fully comp as normal and through all the comparison sites, and direct with Aviva etc.. is ... £1294.00, it is terrible :(

Who else is looking at renewing soon :) what prices have you been quoted ?

The only thing that makes sense is http://www.thisismoney.co.uk/insurance/car/article.html?in_article_id=513665&in_page_id=35,

"Last year, the cost of meeting claims exceeded premium income by 22% and the spiralling increases we’re seeing show that insurers are trying to fill that chasm.”

http://www.broking.co.uk/insurance-a...motor-premiums

"The £9 billion personal lines motor market made an underwriting loss of 7p for every £1 of net premium"

http://www.deloitte.com/assets/Dcom-...U_NL_Sep09.pdf

"Research by the actuarial and business consultancy has found that in private motor, combined operating ratios could exceed 120%"

http://www.postonline.co.uk/post/new...ios-exceed-115

but it makes me very angry

Nope, a quick Confused quote shows prices almost identical to last year for me:

A sharp insurance price rise indicates a sharp rise in the number and/or severity of claims. So what's causing such a large rise in claims?

I'd be interested to see figures for usage of companies like Europa and HelpHire - ridiculous hire charges and so on could account for a big increase in settlement costs.

Looks like mines going up, from the quotes looking at extra £14 a month with 6 years NCB on a 1.2 Yaris zero claims and no points, they can get ******

Last month my Scorpio Cosworth ins went down from £360 to £340 but this month Westfield went up from £220 to £250 - so I'm £10 worse off :-(

Haven't checked the Lexus LS400 as the insurance isn't up for renewal until next June.

Paid £510 last year with Direct Line, their renewal quote is £695 this year.

Cheapest alternative is Swiftcover at £950 for worse cover (larger excess etc.) If I behave as a new customer with Direct Line they come back at £990.

Guess i'll be paying £695...

My insurance renewal quote goes up between 20% to 30% every year... until I shop around and then threaten to leave... and it magically drops close to my previous renewal price. One day they will call my bluff though :)

Got my renewal here, It's gone up by almost 50%. They can kiss my hairy **** if they think I'm going to sit back and let them "autorenew" for my convenience!
