Tell me about second hand PS3s

I bought my second hand 40GB PS3 and works perfectly and I think I only paid around £80 or 90 from the bay.

Well from what ive read is that the 60Gbs have dropped loads in price 2nd hand due to the possiblity of it YLOD (dead!) 40Gbs are also cheap but again it seemed early ones had BD drive issues. That leaves you with mostly 80GBs and Slims, the slim is to close to its retail price to be worth it TBH so a 80GB or a 160GB is probably at optimum price point/reliability. For piece of mind i would get a brand new one if you can afford one, some good deals around if you look and can always trade in the games for money/credit to lower the cost or get what game you wanted.

Well, from what I've heard, they do pretty much the exact same thing as all the other PS3's except they are a bit more slutty and tend to sleep around, so they've been owned before.

Kinda like when you meet a woman who isn't a virgin, you don't know what she's been doing with some other guy before. So be careful and only buy if you're absolutely sure the PS3 doesn't have any CSTDs (Console sexually transmitted diseases).

The main thing id say be careful of is bust disk drives. Ive tested more than one of them from work, and the majority of the bust ones turn on fines etc, but wont read anything you put into the drive.

This.

We got a second hand PS3 for my brother, one of those that can run PS2 games too and I really don't notice any difference at all from mine.

I found the original PS3's that are backward compatible, on the bay & that are in perfect condition sell for more than a brand new slim.. I had my eye on a couple before ending up with another new slim.

I would never buy a console 2nd hand, I just don't trust other people.

When my launch PS3 died I went out and bought a new Slim, much quieter and guarantee.

I bought a 40gb one from the bay a couple of years ago for £200 with 6 games,2 pads and a 200gb hard drive. I've never had a single problem with it.

True, you are at the mercy of the previous owner. At least for me, anyone who buys anything off me gets something that's always been thoroughly looked after. I keep everything in brand new condition knowing that I'll be selling it whenever a new and improved model comes out.
