31% car insurance rise this year

I'd be interested to see figures for usage of companies like Europa and HelpHire - ridiculous hire charges and so on could account for a big increase in settlement costs.

Perhaps if garages fixed cars more quickly there would not be so many hire costs

I am not looking forward when it comes to my renewal at some of the prices posted!

i couldnt get under £900 for my group 17.

Prices for lower insurance cars may not have risen, but the higher groups seem to have, unless you've just turned 21 or reached some other insurance cheapenning milestone.

It doesn't make any sense to me really, had an accident in may and was basically encouraged to pursue a personal injury claim! the guy I ended up speaking too made it sound so bad what had happened to me I felt lucky to be alive! There all doing it to each other!

Quotes are so random as well, how can one insurance company quote me £4000 and another insure me with all the extras for £950, I will never understand what criteria they follow when it comes to retaining existing customers and attracting new ones.

the £4000 one is quoting you a deliberately high quote to make you go elsewhere

they dont want your business.

I'm guessing you fit a certain steretype they dont want to insure - young drive, powerfull car driver etc..

Wow they saw you comming!

I drive a Mazda 3 Sport 56 plate. Its costing me £700, i'm 22 with 1 year no claims. Been driving 4 years as a named driver. 1 Accident - Not my fault. Your last quote of £593 is a lot too! but i guess thats london tbh.

Prices are stupid this year. My insurance last year was £355 with £60 quidco cash back. The renewal with the same company this year is £428 with no cash back. Cheapest confused quote is around £700, wtf.

So how can i start my own car insurance business? :p

My renewal quote (admiral) was lower than any quoe I could get online (comparison, direct line etc) except for Admiral's own website which was lower by £100. I then asked them to match it, which they did. Then I got a multicar quote which was another £100 lower again. Admiral fzw :D

The cheapest quote I have so far is £50 more expensive than last year, despite the fact I have an extra years NCB (3 in total) and I've had my licence for a year longer (2 years, 3 months.) :(

I'm 20 / M / UB8 post code (grade F* - the worst)

Sounds like we have similar car :)
Yes the cost's are no joke. I tried TPTF instead of fully comp and Admiral will not quote due to the value of the car.

Options i have left

- Reduce the estimated value of car
- find a garage to park in overnight :)
- fit a tracker

Finally sell the car and downgrade to something which is over 10 years old :)

Think yourself lucky

I am getting £100+ a year

27
6 years NCB
E Postcode
10 year licence

My renewal actually doubled when it came through last month. Couldn't believe my eyes! (was a claim free year).

So, on to the comparison websites i went and found a different insurer which offered terms at similar rates as to what i was paying last year. Good Job.

How the hell are you paying more for a <150bhp FWD hatchback at the same age (when I took out insurance) than I pay for a ~140bhp, RWD 2 seat roadster/convertible ...

I seriously do not get insurance companies

Nope!

I shopped around and was paying £1200 tpft on my R32 GTR and sold that.

Bought an R33 GTR moved to different insurance compnay and paying £950 fully comp with 3 years NCB, 3 points 5years driving.

I am also paying £650 for my 306 HDi D Turbo with no NCB and my mum as a named driver and me as main driver and policy holder.
