i dont get it. surely a caviar black with sata 3 6gbsec would score higher ?

i have a i7 950 stock
6gb dominator gt 1866
and a 470 gtx oc'ed

The highest any single HDD can score is 5.9. Windows experience index is pants. Best to download a proper benchmarking tool.

Well it's not like a mechanical will cap out on sata 2 so sata 3 isn't going to make any difference lol

My ssd scores 7.6

oh i know it dosent even max sata, but still thought it would get higher.

and yeah, i think ill benchmark it properly, its not let me down so far, although loading cubase and photoshop has took its time, sometimes do think its slowed my cpu down,

maybe its best to get an ssd for boot. and use that for storage.

It's not pants at all, it's just platter hard drives suck at 4KB reads/writes which are tested and favour heavily in the scoring for the Windows Index.

could it be bottlenecking me? i find my boot times and windows loadup tomes take ages! its kinda embarrasing, cos hes a classic example, my old amd seperon boot up quite fast, so i started using this new machine and gf bein a noob i thought id show her cos shes intetrested, it loads up slower : | this is with a 950 i7 too. if i got an ssd would it be much faster ?

sata 6GBsec is never going to be realised on a mechanical drive. While the interface on the drive supports that speed, the motor is never going to run at more then 130-150MB/s sustained transfer rate which is why SATA 6GBSec support is not needed on these types of drives. And because mechanical drives are pants at 4k/8k random read/writes and this is taken into account during the windows benchmark (as others have said), your drive can only ever score a max of 5.9.

No, it is pants. I get a higher cpu score than the OP but lower in the graphics....... despite having a worse cpu and better gpu(s). It's really bad for comparing different systems. Chances are my cpu beats his in one test, his beats mine in about half a dozen..... yet WEI puts priority on the single test my CPU does better in. I'm also pretty sure windows experience index doesn't realise I have 2 gpu's.

im thinking the fact you have a better cpu socre maybe because youve overclocked it ? mins is stock 3.06ghz

also my 470gtx is oc slightly to 670core and 1850 shader.

sure the gf would be impressed with a cute new ssd

And here's my black on Sata 2. It's a 2tb which is slightly faster then the 1tb but as you can see SATA2 or SATA3 makes no difference to mechanical drives.

WD Caviar Black 2TB

True mine's overclocked, but yours has hyperthreading. I'm sure yours would still beat mine in the majority of benchmarks.

One overclocked 470gtx certainly shouldn't be beating two overclocked 5850's;) I'm pretty sure the windows experience index is only checking one of them.
