Do you know any gay people

I know exactly zero gay people. I have normal groups of friends, I don't try and hide from certain types of people, yet I haven't met someone face to face who is gay let alone known one.

On the other hand, my girlfriend went to school with 6 gay people.

Yep, you are definitely a Poo Pilot just waiting for clearance.

School friend of mine and later a work colleague.

I don't see the big deal here, do people still base view on other people on their sexual pref?
Guess I'm wrong to think people weren't so childish still and backward thinking.

You're seeing the numerous homosexual couples for whom that's not true and assuming they're not homosexual couples. Standard human behaviour - we tend to notice the things that stick out and make patterns from them.

Come to think of it, none of the gay couples I know fit your description of all gay couples.

I know when to spot a gay couple. :p I don't just see a woman and a butch woman and think 'oh, they're gay'. I have to see them kissing, holding hands, etc. first to come to that conclusion.

Tbh it's pretty impressive how far tolerance has come even in the last decade to the extent it's pretty much at the level of widespread acceptance now (a slight, but important different). Good to see really, now they just need to get over the big religious hang up over the word 'marriage' and do away with the 'civil partnership' stop gap nonsense.

There's actually a lot of evidence to suggest that we're all bi, it's just social conditioning that defines our 'sexuality'.

Which is why nobody at all was homosexual for all of the time in this country that it was highly socially unacceptable and usually illegal as well.

Hmm...no.

Reality isn't as simple as the usual split into two completely seperate groups and a bit of a vague acknowledgement of people exactly in the middle. It is a spectrum rather than discrete groups, but many people really are at one end of that spectrum. You'd need to stretch the definition of 'bi' to ludicrous lengths to get everyone in. The only time everyone is bi is when Russell T. Davies is writing the script.

While I agree I think it also depends on the sort of people you spend time around. Younger people in general are more accepting, however I think it is very bias to those that have been to university, which TBH is a hotbed of gayness compared to the rest of the young population.

I'd be interested to see any statistics about the acceptance of gayness/percentage of gayness from university graduates and those that didn't go to university.
