advice on gaming pc build (noob alert)

If you want to add another 470 Joe down the line you will need a more powerful powersupply to run both cards together. i think an 850W would do it.

but if you dont and you only want one 470 until u get a faster card "wayyy" down the line then keep the powersupply u have selected.

looking at the games you play i dont think sli would come into things. but who knows wot games ull be into in a year :)

I would remove the Blu ray player...Do you own/play any blu ray movies???
I would get a cheap DVD RW for now, and get a blu ray ROM later if needed. If it main use is for gaming Blu Ray player is another luxury xD
That graphic card looks fine althou that price is in the 5870 range :/

i dont own a single Bluray movie lol but i do rent quite a few films from blockbuster and the dvds are the same price as the blurays so i thought i shot one in there

would this be ok as a replacement

wot do you think yourself Joe?

do you think you will stick to your current games and not ventur into fps?

if u r certain ur going to be staying put then it would be safe to get the less psu and 1 470

by taking out the br player and swapping the graphics card i have dropped the price by £20 to £960

i think i will leave the psu for now jake i have no intention of doubling up on graphics just yet

i wont be playing any fps i've retired

i've put so many and i mean so many hours into both modern warfares i'm actually embarassed to tell people lol

they are just a bit boring and samey (if thats a word)

i will however be playing a lot of RTS and maybe a bit of RPG

my 360 just gets used for guitar hero now

If you dont plan to go SLI i would defo get the 5870 over the 470.
But if you wait 3-6 weeks the new ATi cards will be out. So to wait a few weeks to get a card tht'll last years is worth it.

I have to say that if you watch a lot of rented movies a blu-ray drive is worthwhile, I have not regretted adding a Blu-ray drive to my HTPC upfront, it saves the waste of an £18 DVD drive sitting around until someone offers a tenner for it. As you say Blockbuster rentals are cheap, why pay for a lesser quality rental if a BluRay is available to watch for the same price?

And the quality is noticeable to my eyes, very much an improvent over upsampled DVD on my 1080 tv.

should i be waiting a few weeks to buy a new model card or wait a few weeks so when the new models come out the old models go down in price

yes i agree with willyg:)

now that we have worked out u wont be SLi,, the 5870s r better as a stand alone card

thats looking like a pretty solid build now Joe ;)

From the games you listed the spec you are building is simply overkill...

"Titan Exodus" Intel Core i5 760 2.80GHz @ 4.00GHz Quad Core DDR3 System

Add the 5850 Total £802.98 inc VAT you also get OC - Full 12 Month collect and return warranty. ;) You can always at a later date replace the i5 with an i7 if need be.

i never know what games are going to come out so i just want to make sure i have the choice to be able to play them and not be limited by my pc

the titan exodus looks ok but will i not need a new mobo if i want to swap to i7 in the future

Slight problem....5870 wont fit in that case.

the titan case??
