Not sure this is true. I actually had to cancel my auto renew yesterday by phone and only by phone can you do this by all accounts. Dare i say it mind it was one of the quickest and easiest calls i have ever made!
Was going to get the Amazon offer for 14 months but will have to have a look at this now when i get home!

you cant, christ why are people still giving completely out of date information? they took this feature away over a year ago!

I've had a helluva job getting them to do it. I chose the dashboard option this morning to get £23.99/12 months on my credit card which switched autorenewal on.
Had to ring up Microsoft and argue with the customer support man in Holland or wherever they are to turn autorenewal off. He kept trying to dissuade me or, when that didn't work, assure me if I used a prepaid card next time it would turn off autorenewal. This went on for five minutes, I lost my rag and just demanded him to turn it off which he then begrudgingly did. Last time I ever renew with a card, no matter how good the offer is.
So you can enable auto-renew on xbox.com just can't disable it?

Yep then you get charged the normal amount...i renewed mine last week 14 mths for £34...seemed like a great deal to me at the time.
EDIT: Just read that you can cancel the auto renewal...oh well still happy with my £34 14 mth sub that i paid for last week.

Not sure people are moaning? There's obviously mis-information in this thread regarding switching off auto-renewals - I believe the fact you can't and you have to call up, as per the other poster but I don't know for sure.
It would be much better if MS sold subscriptions without this sneaky tactic, i.e. Blizzard will switch auto renewals on when buying through the WoW Accounts pages but do offer the option to buy prepaid WoW timecards through the Blizzard Store electronically, which don't auto-renew.
As it stands it's a great price, with a little bonus avatat, but it's helpful to be aware of the potential downside.

The auto re-new is depends completely from your perspective but for me it isn't generally a bad things though I agree it usually cheaper elsewhere than through microsoft themselves. I haven't looked for a while but I am sure you used to be able to change the card details held on the xbox - so if this was (or still is) possible and you changed it to 000000000000 next year it would it try to renew to your original details or your updated ones?
Yep, although on that example there's not much in it, because you can get two 14mth subs at 35 each at the moment - from a major online retailer (ignoring the private/ebay sub sellers here).
I may be wrong, but you're not actually stopping the 'obligation' to pay MS, so technically they can then freeze the account until you've paid (as per the occasional thread here). You actually need them to stop the automatic renewal from you in the first place.
Couple of years ago, I had to force my bank to refuse Microsoft's greedy little fingers getting into my account. They really are a godawful, hateful and greedy ******* of a company.
Good console & service though. I just don't like the ethics that permeate throughout the whole thing that are so blatant.
I have a 12 month sub which was off a scratchcard, and apparently it will automatically renew because MS remembers my card details from my dead console. God damn it. The hassle is so lame.
