Is it just me or do the majority of the new astras have faulty brake lights?

Pretty much everyone i've seen so far, the brake lights flicker on and off at random when the brake pedal is pressed, whether the car is moving or stationary. Surely not all the drivers of these cars have vibrating right feet :p

Is it not an indication of ABS kicking in?

Not sure how it works actually and with it being stationary, I don't know. Maybe it depends on how hard the pedal is pressed?

Yeah I've seen this too. Was stuck in traffic behind a learner in the new Astra and the brake lights were going nuts.

Could be a few things (like a fault), but some new cars flash the brake lights when you press the pedal hard so it catches the peoples attention behind, its a standard driving technique when sat at a junction for example particually when its icy, i do it all the time to make sure the person behind knows i've stopped.

I noticed this yesterday too, and it certainly wasn't being braked hard. I guess it's either an overly sensitive pedal-switch, or that LED's don't fade in and out like bulbs so when you are on the cusp of the button's limit (i.e feathering the pedal) they flicker.

I've seen this too but I always thought that it was due to nervousness on the drivers part as they'd never be too sure if the car would move again after stopping :)

don't super cars/sports cars have that? like r8? gtr? the taillights flash a bit.. maybe they used similar system in the astra too lol..

A lot of LED lighting systems strobe the lights as it allows them to drive the LED at a higher brightness without increased wear. Most people's eyes can't see the flashing as it's too fast, though some are susceptible.

I've noticed it on a few cars, mostly Mercedes, my GF notices it on pretty much every car with LED lights and it drives her spare.

Pretty sure it's not this, the flashing is quite obvious and far lower frequency than would be expected of strobing.

Same goes for Renault day time driving lights, i've seen at least three that only have one working, not sure why but it amused me a little

Are you sure this wasn't the thing where the light turns on at whatever side the car is turning?
