I've been saying the above for years^

The millions of pounds spent on giving "special needs" students free computers, software, grants e.t.c. is obscene.

Ofcourse there are real cases where someone has severe learning difficulties but most don't.

Some people are just less good at some things than other people. Parents need to understand this as they are always looking for excuses as to why their offspring may not be doing as well as others.

Dyslexia rates are 8% in the UK. Unless they are mainly concentrated here I'm going to call bull on a lot of members.

I think you will find that is a the bottom end of the scale for the % figures with quite a few studies going over 15%. It also does not seem to me to be too far fetched that people with dyslexia may find challenges in life that would attract them towards the detachment that the internet can provide. Moreover, dyslexia as I am sure you aware has many "flavours" that will exhibit in a variety of manifestations. Dyslexia itself is not a disease per se but a collection of symptoms that are similar and categorised together the origin of those manifestations is varying between populations and individuals in those populations.

I would also add the notion that if you exhibit those symptoms but are not diagnosed then you are dumb might be offending to some people! So why do we need a poll? We are all pretty anonymous here so chose to believe about other people what you chose to believe.

I think Mods should identify dyslexic members and target them so their virus doesn't spread to other normal OcUK members.

Or mark them /give them a special avatar so that we know who to avoid.

I wonder if the rate of [diagnosed] dyslexics is a higher proportion in the 'geek community' than the general population? I certainly see suggestions that an awful lot of nerds are borderline (if not full blown) Asperger's. :p

You've been reading the daily mail too much.

I'm dyslexic, and rather predictably, my son has learning disabilities too.

What provision has been made for him at school ?

A slated writing board and some pencil grips !!

I'm not dyslexic, although I was diagnosed with dyspraxia when I was younger. I kind of wish I wasn't because I think I'd be a hell of a lot more confident now if I wasn't made to feel like a special needs kid for a good few years of my life. :\
