LOTRO now free to play!

Free to play is pretty much just a extended trial, you get nothing but the starter area, and cant do much. For Lotro its more a gimmick than true free to play ( Yes I play the game on a life time sub) well stopped bout 3 months ago

I've already covered this in another post, but just to clarify the error here...

You get more than the "starter area", you get the shire, bree-land and ered luin. Everything you need to reach around level 22-25. You also get every other area and the full epic questline. You just dont get the quest packs for the additional areas. Doing the deeds in the initial areas gives you more than enough points to get the quest pack for the lone-lands or the north downs which are the next logical areas.

Aside from that the points are shared between your characters so a new player, who would probably roll more than one class anyway to try them out , will end up with plenty of points to get the quest packs for 2 or 3 areas on their main character.

Alternatively a player could simply subscribe for 1 month, which would give them 500 points anyway, then unsubscribe. That would give them enough points to get a couple of quest packs plus have the added bonus of permanently raising their account status from free 2 play to premium. Even further alternatively, subscribe for 3 months and then unsubscribe, which gives you 1500 points, which is enough to reach level 50 via questing (the fewest amount required being 1490 pts, but I feel the 1540pt path is the more viable). Plenty of options there for everyone who doesnt want a permanent subscription.

Well i started the tutorial and killed a few spiders and saw a black rider and spent 15 mins trying to equip a new bow and dagger .lol.So far so good :)

Get ready for lots of people asking you for summons all over the place :)

My captain is currently level 53 , happy to answer any queries you might have

Atm my only question is -

I've just got my first Herald at level 10 - all he does is carry a flag right? i cant seem to make him attack or does that come later with another herald at level 20 or something?

You should get pet command bar pop automatically once you summon him, with the usuall passive, agressive, attack etc commands. He also gets a special attack, a taunt command, and a very useful ability that heals you for a small amount of his health. Even if you've gotten rid of your pet bar somehow he should be on defensive by default, and attack whenever you do.

You get a few abilities later on that buff him up, or heal him when you do damage, that sort of thing. You can also slot herald armaments that change his outfit and gender.

:( oh well no pet bar comes up when i summon him , and he doesn't fight he just looks uber scared all the time :D lolz

ill have a look round the settings

Also when using the heralds special attack ability (the red button on the pet bar) try to maneuver around so that the herald is hitting the target from behind for the bonus.

I meant on a pc and laptop, but the external IP address will be the same due to one modem.

No problems with multi accounts being run from one IP. In fact you could have 2-3 instances of the game running on 1 PC. Its the account login that needs to be unique.
