How Amazing Is Ricky Gervias!!!!!

Have always been a massive fan of his work, he is a fantastic writer and comedian, and his work from the Podcasts to his Film career have entertained me no end.

How can you not like Lee Evans, thats the real crime here

Do people not realise that the whole up his own arse thing is all part of the comedy? It's the character he plays to the world. Only people who know him will know if he's like that in 'real life'

i can't stand him. hated the office

I didnt really like the office myself, it wasnt my kind of comedy but I saw some scenes and I appreciate the genius in it, theres stuff I saw in the short time I watched of the office that showed massive talent.

Guy who likes Gervais in liking Evans too shocker!

They both suck :p

Are you a close personal friend of his? If not how can you possibly say its only a character, while simultaneously saying only his friends will know if thats really him or not, you really can't have it both ways.

Also yes, he might be different in private, that doesn't make his character any less of a **** whose not particularly funny and irritating, had his moments, done some nice writing but really in terms of standup and actually performing himself, very very poor.

I thought he was VERY poor in invention of lying, as in its a good idea for a film, VERY poorly thought out, completely inaccurate in so many parts(theres an underlying concept that supposedly dictates why everyone is like they are, but theres numerous bits they screwed up) and its simply very not funny for the most part and very up its own arse, maybe not surprisingly.

Ghost Town has its moments, but its the same tired old character, unable to interact with people in general but grows up towards the end.

In the end he's the same old same old, and theres only so much you can take.

The american office is frankly funnier, better actors, better comedians but after 6 series its incredibly tired, the guy playing Brent is having the same(but better paid and more successful) career, he's stuck playing the same character in every film, and his character in the tv show is tired and boring most of the time. Infact the American Office's Michael is getting closer to the painfull to watch Brent with every episode.

In what ways is he up his own arse? I mean that genuinely as a question because i've not read or seen anything that leads me to that conclusion

Such a good question mate!

It's almost as though Gervais' popularity somehow makes him 'up his own arse'. I love how this is the general opinion but no one can back it up.

Trentlad you make me laugh - I think it's you that doesn't get Gervais.
He wrote that for a character he plays in Extras - he doesn't play himself in Extras.
Yeah, it's an excellent scene but wrote for a character.

I'm a massive Gervais fan and he is up his own bottom now.
He has a right to be there and I still enjoy everything he does.

Ricky Gervais doesn't really do characters - they're just him really. Just like on the 11 o'clock show it was just his un-pc side dressed up as a character as he's a bit scared of what people would think of him if he just came out and said the lines as himself.

Shame he's done some real poorly written Hollywood rubbish for cash. And dressing up the podcasts with a few pictures to churn out more money is a bit cringeworthy. He should stop making crap and write some decent comedy rather than repeatedly whoring himself.

I still haven't seen Invention Of Lying or Cemetary junction so I can't comment on those, but from listening to his interviews and his XFM radio show you really get to understand what kind of a person he is.

I would be utterly stunned if he "whored himself out" on any of his projects. His entire ethos is to only create something if he has creative control over it and to be proud of what he's made. However, that doesn't mean everything he'll create will be an absolute masterpiece.

Invention of Lying was his first film, I'd have been blown away if it was a master piece. I think dmpoole is the only lad to have enjoyed the first one so there's still hope for me to like it too. :)

I've never found him particularly funny either, The Office was pretty meh and everything since has been pretty monotonous and boring. The only time I ever found him funny was just recently when he guest starred in Louis CK's show, Louie. Watch some Louis CK and you'll get to see a real comedian :D.

I don't find him funny at all. Office was good at times but no where near Blackadder material like someone earlier suggested.

His films are just so poor it's not even worth discussing. Just seems like an annoying T### to me. Seems like many people share the same view on here. Good taste from the clockers forum. lol

I don't get why people think he's a genius. I never rated the office; if you want to watch a comedy show about losers in an office, The Apprentice is much funnier.

For me, Live8 was the proof he's a talentless hack - he had to fill in for 5 minutes because of a delay and could only come up with the Brent dance and whatever that bloody song he does on the office. Died on his arse. A stand-up that can't fill 5 minutes on stage is worth anything.

As much as I like Gervais that was embarrassing.

Link to a video???

'Talentless hack' just because he was unexpectedly asked to go on stage for five minutes. You got to love people berating celebs on internet forums, they get so extreme and have so much unfounded ferocious anger. If I remember correctly the crowd kept shouting out for him to do the dance, he didn't just decide "oh I'll fall back on that old chestnut".

He wasn't unexpectedly asked to go on stage for 5 minutes, he was the host. It was hardly a big shock he was there. The crowd might well have been chanting for the dance, but's that's because he'd spent about a minute on stage going "Er...well...right...anyway".

Dude, that's what the internet's for!

In all fairness, I'm that belligerent in real life too, but I have short man syndrome so it's allowed :D
