You say that but I happened to be working in Rome during a bank holiday (saints day or some other nonsense) and as I couldn't get any meetings I pottered off to the Vatican to have a look around. I didn't realise but it was a huge event there. All I had to do was walk through a metal detector and I got to watch the previous pope dribble and mumble from just yards away.

Dearie me, reading through thisd thread almost makes me think I've accidently logged on to an Orange Lodge Association forum, who are publicly opposing the visit while the Pope calls for unity.

Get your fingers out of your asses, your Queen invited the Pope and as such, picks up the bill for the visit. The money being charged for attending masses is being used to help various charities and is not being banked by the Vatican. As for the Pope being a Nazi, he was drafted into the Hitler Youth with no decision of not going being available to him. He has praised the UK for it's part in taking a stance against and fighting Nazism.

The dis-information is truly epic in scale and I thought my fellow OCUK members would have been able to see through it. Silly me.

Of course it's not being used by the Vatican, they steal enough of money for themselves. I'm sure there are millions of causes that £12 could be used for that would be better than paying for the pope to come visit.

Also, do you really think the nazi association (yes, I know it's not true), and the money are the only reasons people are opposing the visit?
 
What a load of tripe. I heard one scottish women on the news earlier saying its was a great thing for Britain and the British people. From what I've witnessed today walking around, there are more foreigners and Irish people in Glasgow wanting to see him than scottish people themselves.

They knew to change the pope's visit to a state visit so us tax payers have to pay half his costs. If he wanted to come and visit, they should have let the catholic church foot it all.
