OK so i used to do a lot of free climbing before i met my wife and had kids nothing major just local rockfaces etc etc Now i can't even bear falling in a game example falling off the bridge in HL2 makes my legs go prickly and watching that youtube vid of the guy climbing the transmission tower made me feel the same way, The most i can manage now is climbing a ladder to the guttering on the house and even that is scary for me.

Is there any reason behind this i thought maybe now i have settled down with family i feel more fearful if something happens to me or my brain had actually started weighing up dangers of situations:p

before i met my wife and had kids

I think this - I started to get it after my son was born, I'm terrible now.

Can't be just life-aversion though, I'm not scared of riding motorbikes like a bit of a loony etc, it's just heights... it was like a switch being flicked in my head.

You should come urbexing with me and a friend of mine, we go to some great heights around the city :D

My friend has a wife and a lad too and he was a bit scared of heights and things but the more we explored the more he's liking it \m/

I was reading some things about the fear of flying a while ago. It said that it's common for a child to happily travel by air every year without issue but have a fear of flying by the time they are about 20.

As most people get older their survival instinct kicks in more and self preservation takes precedent over being reckless and stupid.

This would appear to have happened in your case after having kids.

your now fat and realised your puny arms wont be able to hold your swollen girth if it all went Pete Tong ?

I absolutely hate heights.

If I get more than about 6ft off the ground and even feel slightly unsafe (which is about 95% of the time) I just freeze there and refuse to move.

Hence facing the fear head-on seems to do nothing for me. It's been like that since I was very small though, so i'm not sure what to suggest.

It's Age mate, You will also find out that for some reason you are unable to sit on a roundabout for a long time without feeling sick but when you were young your would lay on it for ages playing "pick up sticks"

I think once you are more aware of the dangers of stuff you become scared of it.

we were having this conversation about a month ago at work. It appears that everyone that has had a kid is now more careful about everything. I suppose its a built in thing to stop you leaving your offspring without a family/parent.

A couple of people actually had to see help as they went OTT and were scared of lots of things.

That has happened to me :(
