I drove down a private road today with a mate. Now bear in mind this is at night at 0:30, at the end of this road are about 12 houses, its all in the "uber rich" part of plymouth aka leghiam manor drive. The reason i did this is parents are interested in a house for sale there, and ive been so busy i havent had a chance to view it in the day. I couldnt find said house, or atleast couldnt find a for sale sign. http://www.homesandproperty.co.uk/sales/1388834
Anyway we come back to the entrance to the estate to find some guy getting into his silver X5 outside is house, who turns his headlights, foglights, driving lights and full beams on, drives OVER his garden, which is covered in peugeot 205's, and straight at us. Then he stops, sits there, moves over. At this point we drive on, he follows us, all the way down this road which is now a public road, past a caravan holiday park, out to marsh mills then up a hill, for anyone who knows the area, he followed us round the bmw garage roundabout twice in a circle then up the hill past it. He finally blocks my car off, gets out, mate gets out to get the reg plate of the X5 as hes on the phone to the police.

Anyway he comes over to my window and says "what the **** are you doing on MY estate". I ask him what he means, and he apparently owns one of the houses, so doesnt own the estate at all. I tell him the nature of my business and he tells me im "not allowed there or anywhere near there". Now i pay road tax, so ill go where I like thankyou.

Now i can see where hes coming from, he could have got out of his house and came over and asked what we were upto, but whats with the intimidation with his X5 ? Why was he flashing us all the way through marsh mills, why didnt he just do what he wanted to do right then ?

He told me he was on the phone to the police but he wasnt, and i wasnt breaking the law anyway.

And what is he doing out in his car at that time anyway ? How can you live on an estate where someone chases your visitors down and shouts at them and threatens them ?

I gather he is some kind of neighbour hood watch busybody but ive never come across such a threatening intimidating guy in my life in that scenario, who gave my mate a wide berth when he got out to get the number plate tags, I am still shocked ?!?!?

I am considering going to see him at his house tommorow to try and get an explanation of his behaviour ? OR should i keep a low profile ? He wrote my reg down and told me that if I am seen again there will be trouble, but I am not overly sure where he means, does this mean blanket Plymouth or just near his house ?

Just drive there and park as close to his house as legally possible. Then video his reaction.

It will be both funny, and proof when he does something stupid.

Edit: Then of course, post the footage here.

Oh, and worste 'I'm getting a new house' thread ever.

Just leave it, not worth the hassle.

Also its a bit silly going around a posh estate at that time of night. If its a posh place then no doubt one of the residents will be wary of new ppl especially at such a time just wondering about. I mean it maybe a overreaction to some but if the guy lives there and there has been crime there at some point recently then yeah i would expect such behaviour.

If your parents are gona buy there then let them look and deal with the area.

Oh and this

Quote = How can you live on an estate where someone chases your visitors down and shouts at them and threatens them ?

I would love a person like that if i was in a posh area, my own personal guard for the street. Burglars beware. :p

was he in a monster truck ?

Chances are he reads either the daily mail or the express and thus thought you were immigrants there to kill either him or bizarrely, the pope.

To be fair how many prospective buyers wait till after midnight and drive to a posh estate to look at the house, he could have been anyone "casing the joint", though it was a bit ridiculous to chase the OP away, in a roundabout way i think it was justified.

haha, so you didn't think to stop while he was flashing his lights at you or the fact you went around a roundabout twice, tells me you're not quite giving us the full story here.

What I suspect happened is you burned off when you saw the X5 approach, instead of saying hi and declaring your intentions there and then.

If you think you deserved a normal reaction to your arrival in that private road, try turning up at a normal time.
Were you in a crappy old car that might suggest you couldn't afford a place down there as well by any chance?
Next you'll be telling us you were trying to find the house with a torch! :D

I would never buy a house without visiting it at different times of the day/night. Posh estate or not.

Now i can see where hes coming from,

what do expect at 12.30 in the morning !

we all pay road tax but don't go looking at house's at 12.30 in the morning.

do you see where he is coming from seriously ?

Erm, a private road IS a private road. ;)

I'd be wary of seeing strangers hovering around at 12.30am looking at houses (one of which included mine!). He may have over-reacted a touch though.

X5 you say? driven by a muppet you say? I'm struggling to see why you would be suprised by that! l'm more suprised it wasn't driven by a women with 1 small child in the back!!

Anyway, lesson learnt there mate, "posh" area + late night + some "youths" in a car, that would make me concerned for sure.

I'd say he was Coked up and went to give his posh totty one, couldn't get it up , stormed out of the house seen you and ya mate and tried taking his coke killed my hard on frustration out on you both.

Doesn't sound like you were doing anything wrong, just have a laugh about it over a pint with you mates now and again when ever the topic of idiots on one comes up ..
