***Official Halo Reach Thread***

Something i always find with halo games in the single player is that when
there is a shoot out i never really feel involved in the combat.
also when you kill someone i dont get the feeling "yeh your dead"
so far it all feels very superficial and a chore to play.
i'm also the only person on earth who doesnt feel drawn into the great story (yawn). i'll be honest i only bought the game coz im starved for games. so far i feel i've just chucked £36 up the swanny. yeh baby !!!
I don't see the problem. You expecting some overly flashy death animation and some dark words like on resident to tell you your dead? You get grenaded or shot and you fall and don't move again and that's all your getting. The story is pretty good, better if you read the books but way better than any other FPS I can think of anyway and now it's told in a much more cinematic and story focused way to good effect. Maybe your not involved because you don't want to be? I didn't feel involved with Uncharted either and I think it may be partly because I didn't want to like it but having played through both of the games to the end I just didn't get it. Maybe the gameplay is simply not your style but it's not because it's a chore to play as it's a very good game. The shields work very strategically to allow more defensive play (or offensive should you choose to let them guard you as you rush), it's got various abilities / equipment to suit peoples play styles whether you want extra shields with the drop shield, cloaking for stealth, sprint for dashing into or away from opponents, jet packs for getting vantage points or evading vehicles etc. Then there's plenty of weapons, good graphics, decent physics and fun gameplay. Add to that a huge community, great sets of modes like firefight and forge world, match recordings etc. and your looking at a damn good game.
I'm not saying this to just rant but just stating my view, you either don't like it because you don't want to or you don't like it because it's just not your thing. Hell I'm not into racing games but it doesn't mean gran turismo 5 or Forza are bad games or a waste of money. I rant, people probably will rant back but regardless I feel you posted that because you want attention so really is it not just polite to respond regardless of if my view is different

You never played any Halo on legendary then?

Seems like its only me that does any killing on legendary single player as the supplied friendlies are quite frankly awful. When u finally get past that seemingly impossible group of enemies, its like, YES, they are finally dead.
Halo 1 story with the actual Halo ring was simply immense and Reach leads upto the first one so i cant wait to see how Reach ends.
Paid £38 for Halo Reach and 2100 livepoints through Tescos online with 15% discount.

To pay £36 for a game that seems like you never really wanted is just down right silly !!

Halo 2 story was quite frankly awful tho.

ah well i dont like it, wish i did :)

Its all down to opinion afterall, and this guy may have something when IGN state in regards to the story:

"Not that it's a particularly great one. While it's certainly more direct than the incoherent tangle of lore that was Halo 3 it's no more engaging."

and

"But if you're playing Halo for a well-told story you're frankly in the wrong place..."

Though they still gave it a 10, which is quite a puzzling outcome considering some of their comments. I think the 10 is a hype score. Though I'm not saying its a bad game, I will likely get it somewhere down the line as I'm definately interested by forge which seems to have been vastly improved.

Anyway, to the point, someone commenting in here to say they dislike the game is surely just as fair as someone commenting they love the game. If you think its pointless that someone slates the game (in a thread designed for talking about the game ), then its just as pointless for loads of people to be praising it. And obviously neither is pointless.

Playing this so far, some campaign and some online. Campaign mode is exactly what I expected from playing previous Halo's - Set pieces, big battles etc. I loved 3 and played it online a lot but I dropped it because I got into cod as I had friends playing that instead. I went back onto halo 3 before reach arrived to re-equant myself and it seems wrong but I can't tell you why. Playing reach online, I can enjoy the challenge of playing against different people and having a laugh with friends when they are on but overall I find myself wanting to finish the campaign off as I like the story and want to see where it goes but not really being drawn to play it online.

Sitting here thinking about it, I would have to say it is in the kill mechanism. I understand the shields and the choice of special ability but it does seem just too difficult to kill people. If I get a couple of frag grenades close to you and unload nearly a whole clip of assault rifle I don't expect to loose because I get beat down.

I agree with what a lot of people are saying here Reach just doesn't feel right and after playing the campaign for few hours I have found it to be very boring.

I don't like how Bungie has butchered the story so theres nothing left for a new studio to develop and the Spartans in Reach at awful im glad they get wiped out they are useless.

Try watching the game from the winners POV, see what he's doing and where your going wrong.

anyone having any save issues ? I was on the set of levels where you are taking out the anti-air guns, and I saved and quitted, then next day I loaded up and I was about 5 checkpoints back :(

got annoyed with having to re-do parts of the level so tried in heroic mode instead of normal for a bit of a challenge, was too difficult for me - so went back to normal - it said all progress would be lost - ok fine as I'd lost it anyway

voila back to my original checkpoint - how odd - lost progress had re-appeared

Brand new game so expect plenty of bugs. Theres a fair few things that seem to have got past testing but from what i hear theres a lot of bug fixes and minor updates on the way.

Btw heroic too hard?

There's too much variation in game types imo, especially since every game you're forced to use different equipment, am I alone in thinking it would be nice just to have some consistent slayer action?

Yeah i've been asking myself this for ages with halo 3, is it too much to ask for a simple mode of nothing but single/team slayer with guests and standard guns on mostly smaller maps? :(

Theres really no reason why they can't have lists upon lists of game modes, theres way too much messing about, also would it hurt to make games start quicker with the same group of players?

Easy on Heroic?

Was that on your own?

Without giving away spoilers for other members how did you fair on the last level? as you get quite a barrage of enemies, I struggled even on normal :-(

Entire game was fairly easy on heroic, I'm going back through on Legendary now, not looking forward to the last level :p

I also had a couple of issues with it not giving me credit for finishing levels so once I had finished the game I had to replay levels 6 and 9 to get credit for finishing the game, that was kinda annoying.

I wasn't observing that they are doing something I wouldn't do or whining about "omg someone online beat me down its not fair". More a general observation that because it is possible to do this there is something wrong with the game. From thinking some more, I think it is now you have life as well as armour (compared to halo 3) so takes longer to kill someone but in my opinion it seems to take too long and too much damage to kill.

Herioc is alright as long as you don't rush in as you will get killed. Been killed a few times also when 2 or 3 elites decide to attack at the same time.

SWAT, Snipers, SWAT, Snipers, SWAT, Snipers, SWAT, Snipers, SWAT, Snipers, SWAT ...

Infection, swordbase, Infection, swordbase, Infection, swordbase...

all my mates want to play is royal rumble, it find it horrible. much prefer team slayer.

Actually, i am not particularly a fan of Halo, but i quite enjoyed reach. Didn't seem to have the artificial padding that the others did.

2 complaints though, why did they take out dual wielding, and the ability to change your selected grenades? Or am i being dumb?
