When did you make your best gains? When I fist started lifting I got caught up in that whole "you wanna be big? EAT BIG!" well I ate like an animal for around 7 months and put on near enough 4 stone
Although I tripled some of my lifts I put on way too much fat so I began to cut. During this cut I got injured, my life got stuck in a rut, money was tight, lifting has been more off than on (diet has been okay). It has been about 3 months and I am almost back to where I started weight wise, my body comp has changed and I have more muscle, but no where near what I should have for the time frame I've been lifting(considering the noob gains I wasted).

So when did you see good solid progression, a lot of people say in their second year of lifting when they are more knowledgeable about what works for them and have better judgment when it comes to training/nutrition.

As soon as I land a job I'm hitting up my game plan and hoping the "muscle memory fairy" pays me a visit ;)

Probably by my 3rd year - my knowledge was becoming more honed, more nutritional knowledge, less reliance on supps, and more motivation to achieve my goals.

I started off not really wanting to put on size or anything, I did start off for vanity reasons. Then for rugby training. Then when I started to get stronger, I was hooked.

2nd and currently 3rd year.

First year is for faffing around like a tosspot and realising your not getting anywhere and figuring out where you're going wrong. Which generally tends to be everywhere :p

gained a fair amount posted up some pics b4 in other thread. but training about year and half to 2 years, best gained probs the last 6 months as first year was a waste of time...

Probably the last few months (after around a year.) Managed to lose a lot of fat and keep size, and now hoping to gain mass and keep fat to a minimum (at least lower than last year).

This thread is depressing for a begineer! :/ :p

It frustrates me because with the right knowledge and planning beginners can make some phenomenal gains in a short period of time, but the misinformation out there is ridiculous. Of course it takes a little time to learn what your body responds to but they could still make some outstanding gains.

I made my best gains in my first and second years. The last few years have been plagued by lower back problems so my squat and deadlift have actually gone backwards.

Amen to that.

I've not lifted a DB in anger for 12 months now. Initially due to injury and then due to my job. Just in the process of working out my new home gym in the garage and then I'll be bang at it again :)

Best gains for me I'd say during my first couple of HST programs, I really blew up not only muscle but set PB's in pretty much everything aswell. Gruelling routine but it really does work!

Know that feeling. Been told my carpi ulnaris (something like that) is torn and will need stitching at some point. Won't be happening this year though, so will continue training light!

I actually made most of my gains inthe first 6 months of training . :D
Unfortunately I didn't realise then I needed to switch routines so I kinda stopped growing but did get a bit more definition and strength in the next year afterwards.

I have touroughly adreesed that though, I'm on my last cycle of AGVT(inhuman, but surprising strength gains), will be taking one or two weeks of regular training after and then straight into HST, I ain't messing around anymore.
