..Whats has this country come too!

No it's not, you have all the right in the world to use reasonable force people have even stabbed and killed attackers and not been charged.

Oh no not the "reasonable force" fallacy again. How many cases do you want me to dig up where the CPS have pressed malicious charges against people using reasonable force to defend themselves in their homes.

What the hell do people want? The police to ignore any and every assault as long as there's someone left alive to say it was self defence?

You can't win with these people. If the police investigate assault, they complain that those who act in defence with reasonable might possibly be charged (note: not tried, not convicted, just charged). If the police didin't investigate assault, they'd be complaining about that too.

The law in this country is as it should be - you have a right to use reasonable force to defend yourself, other people or property and to stop a crime in progress. Reasonable force does not include trying to batter helpless criminals to death. Unless you're Munir Hussain, who has special privileges because he got good spin in the papers. He should be in jail. For many years.

Half a dozen will do. Or even one or two if you provide enough details. The results would be appreciated too, i.e. did it get to court and if so what was the verdict.

Although since you've just called the law that can be proven both in writing and by precedent a fallcy, I'm confident you have nothing to back up your claims.

I don't ... is that even possible?

I mean, the title of the thread - "..Whats has this country come too!" - is just, what?

I quite like the idea of "WHATS? Has this country come too?" like it's some sort of exclamation of horror at Albania turning up at your party.

Or Ethiopa making an appearance and cleaning out your buffet.

Also, any thread, comment, story or anecdote that begins or ends with 'what has this country come to' is, without exception, always worth ignoring.

Not sure if this has been mentioned already but...

If 'reasonable force' was 'any force you want' then wouldn't this give idiots an easy getaway if caught beating the poo out of someone? They could just claim it was self-defense, even if they were the attackers.

Sounds more like the NUS/college covering their legal behinds tbh. "Sorry I broke the bloke's skull officer, the NUS leaflet told me to." (Edit: Beaten like a ginger stepchild. Damn netbook of fail with its diddy screen).

OP, it's 'irk' not 'erk' - among other things. :( Von, I think I'm catching your Nazi disease. :p

Yet you took the time to post a comment.

Force decided ultimately to have been reasonable. Where's the beef.

Completely impossible to tell, given the lack of information surrounding the stabbing.

I'll sort of give you that one, insofar as he was very much provoked, but at the end of the day it's still a story about a teacher assaulting pupils in school, which is pretty hard to swing in his favour.

Force deemed reasonable following very quick assessment by the jury. Just to clarify, this is how things are supposed to work.

He shot a man with a shotgun, having decided not to call the police for fear of making things worse. Epic judgement skills.

scorza said:

OK, so he was stabbed first, yes, but he also shot a teenager in the face with a modified harpoon gun. At best, it's self defence. At worst, he's a nutcase.

Is it wrong that I think all the incidents above were totally reasonable, assuming the information given was correct?

Sure, some were a little harsh, but at the end of the day nobody forces you to burgle someone's house, or stab another human being.

My neice has just bought home an independent NUS leaflet from the college about keeping your self secure on the dark winter nights.. :)

....... Be careful though - if you use pepper spray or bash your would be attacker with a torch you may be up on assault charges.

......

Erm, don't want to sound funny, but isn't pepper spray still illegal in the UK? So if you use pepper spray you could fall foul of firearm laws.
