thinking is that its more likely to happen again if you park your car on the road.

Statistically speaking, if your house is on a bend or whatever, it is more likely to happen again than not !

after being in a non fault claim this week i'm wondering are the insurers likely to gouge me for the next 5 years because of this?

First year after the Mrs was rear ended our Admiral policy went up about £30-40 when the non fault claim was added however this year when I moved to an Elephant single car policy it didn't go up at all, I don't quite understand why as they are the same company!

The insurance sales rep explained that non faulters are more likely to claim then someone who is at fault and thus cost the insurers more money statistically and hence the higher premium!?

I want to see where the insurance companies are drawing these statistical conclusions from.

afaik its from their claim history.

Its like when somebody's insurance goes up because somebody went into the back of them at a roundabout

the other person is at fault, but if your the sort of person to hesitate on roundabouts and change your mind, others are likely to crash into the back of you as well, hence your insurance goes up, even though its not your fault.

he's got a point

if its not their fault, theres no humility. They want a courtesy car of equal stature to the one they already have, they want the car repaired, and they want the best job doing, they want it perfect and they don't see why they should be inconvenienced or have the car any less than perfect.

If you caused the crash however, you just want the thing over and done with as cheaply and quickly as possible. Theres no indignation at the injustice, because you know its all your fault.

Mmmm either I have selective memory or I never really got any increase in my insurance when I had a stupid lady hit me on a round about in 2006. I may just be remembering wrong but my insurance has kept on going down even when I put the non fault claim on.

And this time around i went with Admiral and they only asked if I have had an accident within the last 3 years so I didn't have to say anything about the claim :D

And they wonder why people make whiplash claims.... its to make sure you dont end up out of pocket! its become almost automatic to make a personal injury claim now.

When some blind woman hit the Elise my insurance went up by about 40% for 4 years I think it was. Really annoying as I was totally not at fault (was stationary in traffic about 7m behind her when she decided to reverse and because I was so low she didn't see me)

I fail to see how statistically I was a higher risk when it wasn't my fault

It's total BS. I could understand that in some situations someone's driving could influence an accident, even if it ultimately was not their fault, but it's entirely possible that there is no reasonable way an accident could be avoided so why are you suddenly a greater risk? In fact insurance is supposed to put you back in the position you were in prior to the accident - if you are paying significantly more for your premium through no fault of your own that is not the same position.

Just make the claim on the third parties insurance. Tell your insurer, but for information purposes only, as you are kind of legally obliged to do so.

The missus reversed into another car but caused no damage. That night I warned the insurance company that the 3rd party is deciding whether they want to make a claim. The 3rd party calls me the following morning saying they are happy to leave it since there is not a scratch. I then phoned the insurers to report what the 3rd party had said and left it at that.

Now, that day I just received the renewal letter £320. 3 days later I get another one which they had increased to £700!!! :D After complaining that there was no claim they relented and sent another but this time at £370.

Moral: Our honesty cost us £50 regardless of whether any money was payed out by an insurer. Gits......

This year More than can kiss my ****

ESURE said my insurance woudnt show anything when that dosy bint drove into my car on the works carpark in JAN. They just put it through drive assist. I'll never know if it did increase my premiums as im now in the states.

how is it possible to determine those who cannot possibly have done anything to avoid the accident and those who are doddering idiots who cause pandamonium and accidents around them ?

You cant, so the insurance co. tars you with the same brush.

Fair enough. But its getting to the stage that you'll be better of without than with the car. No one said that is going to be cheap to run the car, but to pay for other road users, this is going bit too far.

its normally on the drive but id only just pulled up to drop something off and then shoot off, typical!

and then the price goes up for everyone and then more threads about "insurance companies gone MaDdDdD!" so its not automatic to claim if your sensible and its not needed

driving is a luxury its not law that you have to drive

insurance companies cover the likely-hood of an incident happening, no one can say that your definately going to claim, but insurance companies would need to be able to prove that their rates they use are not over the top and they have to be able to back up the reason why premium changes with certain changes, e.g. going from working to unemployed.
