BT BB Disconnects when phone rings

:(Recently my BB has started to disconnect and reconnect when I make or receive a phone call. The restarts are causing my IP Profile to dip back to a silly 135k and stay there. This happened last month and after several calls to the guys in India they reset my IP profile back to 3400k and sent me a new Home Hub. All seemed well.

However last night I made a call and the BB disconnected and then restarted - and again my IP profile dropped to 135k. I have changed the filter and also tried the test socket.

My Noise Margin is 9.6, and Line Attenuation is 54. I live quite a distance from the exchange.

Surely one dropped call shouldnt send your BRAS profile down only to have to wait at least 3 days for it to reset?

Any other suggestions before I call BT call centre again?

Thanks
:)

I've got exactly the same thing happening! It never used to do this. It's only an issue if I pick up the phone so I'll wait for a solution here cause I really can't be on with call centres at the moment :p

do you have another socket in the house to plug the phone into and see if ringing it still has the same effect ?

when you say you've tried the test socket does that mean it failed as well ?

Generally this is down to poor filtering I would check all your filters to make sure they are posistioned correctly.

I've had a problem like this in the past and it was due to a socket not being filtered. Double check all your connections and Filtering, replacing the filters if necessary.

+2

these problems are nearly always filters breaking down and not doing their job

also worth trying the router on the primary BT socket if you have extensions in the house.

I have this issue as well (thankfully without the extreme IP profile changes), I've tried a range of different filters but sadly have never been able to resolve it. It's one of those annoying problems in that 99% of the time people will suggest changing the filters as the solution, which I've done multiple times. I suspect it may be down to dodgy internal wiring as I think the phone socket in the office is chained off the first floor, which is in turn chained off the master socket on the ground floor.

You should try disconnecting all internal sockets, as I had a fault on one of mine which caused noise on the line whenever the phone rang.

Disconnect all phone devices in your house , remove all micro filters
Put one microfilter in your main master socket attach you router to it and your phone
let your router sync and use you mobile to phone to landline , if you line drops try another filter or two.
If this still keeps dropping and you know wiring disconnect your internal extension from the master socket to isolate it , try again and see what happens.

Do you by any chance have a burglar alarm ?

How old's the house? Sometimes the old 'bell' wire (used on old phones to make them ring when a call was coming in) can cause problems, these can usually be disconnected from the master socket with little/no consequence.

I had a similar problem, coupled with noise on the line. It got so bad that I couldn't maintain the test profile of 64kbps even when connected through the test socket. Problem came and went, but usually showed up a couple of days after heavy rain. Was once charged for an engineer callout when the weather was fine, and never got my money back. Turned out to be external wiring, and as soon as they shifted me onto a new pair of wires the problem vanished. But that was a year later as my ISP was useless and kept refusing to call out OpenReach. When I eventually had it sorted, I changed ISPs.
