Bit of a generalised statement that. Overclocked to what level? From my own personal experience (and from benchmarks off the good old internet ... yawn) that's not my experience. Also depends on what game, what resolution, what settings etc. etc. Though I accept that OC a 470, or 5850 and they will start to pull away from an OC 460. Again from personal experience (at least with a 470), I know this to be true.
If you want best bang for buck. Simple... get a 470. If not, then either a 5850, or 460 (with a decent OC) will do. I certainly don't think you will feel short changed by any of them.
Or even more sensible (what's that eh?), wait till October and see what ATI's (sorry AMD's) new offerings are.
PS. Much as I hate quoting articles off the Internet (you can do this till the cows come home to pretty much prove any point of view).
Having said all that, this one is probably one of the more interesting (better?) ones. And shows the differences across a range of cards at stock and OC'd.

It was generalised because the majority of benchmarks vary with one another, and you're never guaranteed how well a card will overclock.
The link you posted uses a lot of TWIMTBP games in their review, so I'd say it's slightly biased imho.
As you said though, the 470 is the best value for money card atm.

5850 seems the logical step, I run BC2 at 2048x, full detail with AA, on a 4870 512MB... and incredibly it runs fine with the 'odd' bit of slowdown.
5850 is my next card because the 4870 is just starting to struggle at my high rez.

If ur running a quad core a GTX 260 will play fine at 1900 res, my bro does 260 and Q6600 and it looks great with only AA on low.
Why not buy the game first then decide if u need/want the upgrade?
EDIT: Don't u already play loads of BC2 so dont u know how ur 260 performs already?

Fair comments.
Also agree with the OC on any card not being guaranteed. I have another friend with a Gigabyte 460 GTX and although the temps are fine. Even with a voltage bump it wont go over 800 MHz. Very little in life is guaranteed.

This is in BC2 at 1920x1200 / 8xaa / 16xaf, which the op wants to play. The 470 is just faster at this res, but it's currently £30 more than a 5850 atm, going by OcUK's pricing.
If his budget is £200, then the XFX 5850 is the best choice. Even though it isn't a reference design, it will overclock slightly.
If he can stretch to £230, the GTX 470 is the better buy.

Mind you, the Techpowerup test of the MSI HAWK version puts it a lot closer.

And if not wanting to OC, then there are 460's out there already OC'd to 860MHz ... EG. POV 460 GTX Beast (you've got to luv these names).
Though once again... I tend to agree with your second comment (IE. re 5850/470).
