10 year old suicide

Thats tragic.

Cumbria is such a nice place too. I could maybe understand if he had stayed in Tower Hamlets and couldnt handle it anymore, but to be in such a beautiful part of the country with all the places he could explore and have fun times in even on his own, and still kill himself is a bit of a shame.

Bet no one says it's "selfish" this time.

He's ten. I'm sure he's not going to be thinking of his family's feelings being hurt. In fact, it's never selfish to take your own life, because if you're at that point where you're ready to do it, then I doubt you'd be able to think about anything else other than doing it.

A few kids at my school killed themselves by jumping off the bridge onto an A road.

Poor Kid, must have been so alone and in some difficult mind state to take his own life. May he RIP.

Ultimately it is, his family now have to deal with the impact of his death.

Saying that I doubt very much whether a 10 year old could begin to comprehend the implications of his actions.

Nobody regardless of their age that seriously want to kill themselves (excluding people with terminal illness) are in a 'rational' state of mind, for some people it's years of self-conditioning, convincing themselves that the world would be a better place without them, that ultimately they would be doing their family a favour in the long run if they wasn't alive, do you know what's it's like to be in that frame of mind?

It's easy to call suicide a selfish act from a rational and objective standpoint but rationality and objectively don't bound well with suicidal thoughts unfortunately.

One word wouldn't go away for weeks afterwards .... why ?

Because kids can be nasty ****s and at that age school is everything to you. More than family, even. It's only when you're older and wiser you wonder how a bunch of losers could make you feel so bad.

Bullying at school is one of those things that either makes you or breaks you.

:(

TBH, I suspect it's generally better now than it used to be...

i dunno, take the internet as the cliché example. Unless they are vetted they can access anything from their bedrooms. ANYTHING the most filthy disgusting perverted stuff in the world. I wouldn't even dream of having access to that stuff...

mass media really has become hideously invasive in the past 20 years, the cult of celebrity included.

it is overpowering for an unguided kid id imagine.

I would say the traditional playground bullying has given way to MSN, text messages and the internet as a medium for bullying.

I wonder if in some ways it makes it easier to bully as there is a level of anonymity granted.

It's not just kids, i've seen various amounts of bullying happen on this forum and in the real world that could resort to people considering suicide. The forum bullying is classed as cyber bullying whether you're meaning it as tongue to cheek it can be taken completely the wrong way.

This should be yet another wake up call not just to bullying at school, but in various areas such as the internet.
