MK4 Golf failed on MOT, does this seem like a trustworthy repair cost?

as for headlight adjustment, if they say its putting out a lhd beam then that cant be adjusted out, its just the wrong headlamp.

adjustment on those is really simple. 8mm allen driver from the top. they never seem to seize either

Car is sorted, Worked out abit cheaper aswel as he managed to shimmey and clean up the rear bushes

£270, MOT done aswel.

You didn't fit a European (LHD) headlamp by mistake did you?

Nope it was the right one, I fitted it last year and it went through the MOT last year ok.

Shimmy the rear bushes?

Wtf?

Sounds really reputable.

Clean them up.

Ether way, whats done is done, next year if there are any issues, I will have more time to look at it myself if it fails. Buy the parts, fit them myself, like I did last year when my car failed on coil springs, I payed £50 for 2 brand new ones, and fitted them myself, as I had more time to play with.

This year, I didnt have any time. It needed to be done.

You can't really clean up a bush. It's a rubber component, it's either knackered or it's not.

OSF Wishbone Bush = £24.90
OSF Top Strut mount = £12.20
NSF Shock = £61.45
Headlamp Bulb = £3.99
Labour = £135

VAT £41.57
Subtotal £237.54
Total = £279.10

lol obv realised how much a pain the rear bushes were and "sod that if you think im doing that for £300"

real bodge with only one side of suspension components being done too. a mate of mine has a mk4 that was previously owned by a bodger. it now has a comedy ride due to having one new damper and three dead ones, but obv "well it passed the mot so it must be fine.."

Its not often I chuck money at people like this, I get most of the stuff done myself.

I just couldnt afford to waste time on this occation, was important i got the car back on the road legal

That what i do personally. And always stay with the car during the MOT. This save me the hassle. I know some will say that they have no time for it. Fair enough, but if the bloke try to fail your car on brake fluid leak, and to sort this out was enough to get the spanner and tighten a bit the nut.

leaking brakes and bodgers....

theres one guy i do work for quite regularly, we flushed new fluid through his brakes. his rear nipples were completely screwed though.

i said i didnt want to do it in case i ended up with his car stranded on my driveway, but he was ok with it. now one is leaking. ive toldhim to get two new callipers as clearly the thread is damaged (vw do them on exchange)

he cant be arsed spending out, rather do scene/chav mods to the car rather than make it run right

Bit of a thread revival, after a week of having the work done, I noticed a lot of knocking at the front of the car, as I wasnt in a position to take the car back until tomorrow, i phoned them and he said yeh fine bring it in, anyway 2 miles from home tonight, had to pull over to check, the front drivers side wheel (where he replaced the top strut mount) the wheel is rubbing against the back of the arch, my steering wheel i now have to have 3/4 to the left to drive straight), when i break i get a lot of knocking.

The guy has done something big time to this. Im phoning the garage tomorrow, and they are going to have to pick it up from my house on a trailer.

I did notify them a few days after I had all this work done and I told them because of work I wasnt in the area.

We replace a lot of VAG rear calipers because of this...always seems the exchange calipers have a steel insert for the bleed nipple to screw into rather than straight into the caliper body as standard.
:)

Garage is picking up the car from my house this morning on the back of a trailer, so they are taking it away to fix it.

and vag exchange prices are very reasonable

why? It really sounds like the garage is making stuff and then bodging the car to death?
