Hi,

I have a standard 1.6 SE Golf with a set of alloys in need of refurbing and the place I am taking them too can do any colour etc. I was just wondering what I could do to make the wheels a bit different? I was thinking maybe add a dark grey to the sides of the struts or something.

There probably isn't anything you could do with them but thought I would ask. I have attached a pic if anyone wants to have have a go with photoshop.

Yeah I thought so. Was just thinking it would be nice to do something subtle. And even though I am a girl I despise pink lol!!!!

Hold on, shouldn't a 1.6SE Golf of this age be running on some 18 inch Audi rims? ;)

But I would agree with the others, keep them silver.

Either standard silver, or if they're not that bad a very good off-the-car clean and buy beer with the money you've saved.

Tbh, on an old baseline golf with black door handles - don't even bother unless they are causing a problem like a slow leak

the SE has a fair few things as standard I believe.

Infact if I remember rightly its pretty much what you get with a GTI. - little things.

I just had a look at what extras the SE has:

alarm, trip computer, rear speakers, velour seats, remote central locking, front+rear electric windows, armrest, cupholders.

No wonder I thought it was the base spec car!

Well on the SE you get windscreen wiper sensor, Heated seats and rear parking sensors which you don't get on a standard golf.

Anyway will keep them silver but I see the place does powdercoating or any finish you like. I would like the maximum possible protection but would also like the wheels to have a nice shiny look so is powdercoating worth it or is there like a clearcoat or something that can be applied?

Must have being the few I looked at were well specced then :)

Don't remember not seeing one without all the things you mentioned so I assumed they were standard.

Are you sure? My missus had a 1.6SE exactly like that and I can't see how it could have been specced any lower unless they were offered with manual windows and no central locking.

Yup they come lower specced than that. Friend has an 04 plate, 1.4. Manual Windows, tape player, no remote locking.
