from a purely modern perspective timberland, he manages to sell a huge amount of singles etc so there must be something there

Zack De La Rocha for me, he is a legend in the way he gets himself across.

His lyrics are genius as well.

Also I'd like to add Matthew Bellamy purely for his guitar abilities. Very few people could match up to his talent.

Have to disagree there, people underestimate how many amazing guitarists are out there. Especially in less popular/mainstream genres.

I have to agree with your disagreement. Bellamy is ok but there are scores of people who can play as well as, if not better than he does.

I've honestly never seen him as a genius. I think the band collectively could be considered geniuses, but on there own I really do feel they are a bit ordinary. Having said that Thom's solo stuff is still damn good, and even Phil's recent solo effort took me by surprise along with Jonny's score to There Will Be Blood. I'd class it more as pure raw talent that genius though, it's nothing that's not been done before on a purely solo level.

My vote would go to Freddie Mercury, I one day hope for a time machine to go back and see that guy live, he was way ahead of his time (and i missed out). Muse wish they could be the stadium rockers that Mecury's Queen were.

I'd also agree on Trent.
