No intel g3 drives this year :(

Indeed. Both the G1 and G2 were considered to be best of the pack when they launched. If the new sandforce drives are out anytime soon the G3 will look silly.

Is there any info on the new controller by the guys who made the barefoot controller? (Original vertex controller). I read that they were working on a next generation chip but not much since then.

Well, the Sandforce 2000 chip will give the G3 a beating.
G3:
Sequential Read: 250MB/s
Sequential Write:170MB/s
read IOPS: 50K
write IOPS:40K
Security: AES-128

Sandforce 2000:
Sequential Read: 500MB/s
Sequential Write:500MB/s
read IOPS: 60K
write IOPS:60K
Security: AES-256

Its expected that Intel will release SATA 6Gb numbers once they have a Sata 6Gb capable chipset out, which will be shortly before they launch the G3's in Q1 2011.
Nobody has confirmed it, but it would be monumentally stupid not to make the G3 SATA 6Gb capable if they expect to keep the performance crown.

Not to mention Sandforce controller performance numbers can be taken with a very large pinch of salt, their marketing numbers are no where near what the drives perform like once every cell has been written to once. Even Tony on the OCZ forums admits to that. At least when Intel advertises performance numbers it's what the drives can actually hit all the time, not in special circumstances, or when brand new.

I wonder why Intel are sticking with SATA 3Gb's? Given SSD's have all maxed out the bandwidth avaibable on this bus surely it makes sense to move up to Sata 6Gb's.

Because in day to day use 99% of people don't need to use the sequential abilities?

There are more important things than the max sequential speeds...

I couldn't care less that the Intel hasn't got SATA3, so why does everyone else care?!

I think it's because they're pushing their resources into Light Peak for future Intel SSDs.

I don't suppose anyone has any more information on these? Are we still on course for next month?

Thread title needs edited. I just thought no drives in 2011? What the ****? :p

This text appears all over the net. Either a cretinous fanboy or a woeful attempt at marketing.

The main bonus of the g3 is meant to be price, as it's meant to about half current prices per gigabyte, if I remember right.

Would be nice to see the sandforce 2000 drives at similar prices too...

I guess it will depend on how long it takes Micron, Toshia et el to switch over to 22nm as there really isn't any cost saving by buying larger drives to get better value which is shame.

I'm going to bump this as I heard a rumour recently that these are imminent, and we're talking days rather than weeks now. I don't really know if I should say who told me, but he's pretty reliable. :)

It's amazing how quiet Intel have managed to keep it. No confirmed specs, sizes, launch dates or availability, nothing.
