Codemasters F1 2010 X360/PS3 (contains important question about 2011 game!!!)

Explains why there was no demo, why no times between cars shown, why you can't control the car in the pits, why you are held in the pits, why you cant watch replays of other cars, why you cant see any other car while in the garage.. The list goes on and on

Banging headache though....wheel definitely makes it much more smoother i find and im slowly getting to grips with the wheel as the first time i played it Thurs night i had major probs with the wheel.

I'm not sure I had a headache, but defiantly felt drained after putting hours in doing a full weekend. I think it's the amount of concentration you have to put in. I find when in a race, once you get to the stage where you've reached a point where you are free from traffic, you have to be careful not to go into autopilot, as a momentary lapse in concentration and you miss a corner.

I'd imagine that this is something that real F1 drivers also have to deal with, the split second concentration that you can't allow to lapse for a second.

you are dead right, oh dear..........especially noticed the one in bold

Having only played the Multiplayer and a couple of single player Grand Prixs to learn tracks can someone explain what the issue(s) are, in very simple terms, and why it is scripted (I watch and understand F1 racing, but am unsure what all this talk of scripted races is, in the game)?

everything is set behind the scenes. any performance by the AI on the track is just for show, ie has no affect on the actual results.

In qualfying the AI cars whizz round the track but don't set any times, the times are calculated afterwards. If you blocked alonso on every single lap of his quali he would still be sitting on the first few rows for the race.

In the race the AI cars are just there for show, the cars performance is calculated seperatly. I would think when the cars are off screen they don't actually 'exist' as such, this is why theres no in game timing gaps between cars.

if it is true its a complete shambles!

Yep when i was in 2nd place on around the 4th lap...i had quite a bit of free track ahead of me ie no cars in front or behind me and i got lazy and ended up spinning out because my mind went into autopilot lol.

Still loving the game though despite its bugs...hopefully will be sorted out with a patch but even if they arent then im pretty sure the next F1 game from codies will be immense...i have to say i had serious doubts about codies doing this but so far am pretty impressed with what they did...it isnt perfect...far from it but for me its addictively playable.

lol they dont compete in full race either ;)

Just been reading the internet about all of this.... no wonder you can't view the AI cars in replay or watch them whilst in the pits like you can in Grand Prix 4.

this is really shocking, if the whole game is just scripted and everything on track is just made up once the results are in, then this isn't a racing game, its just a time trial game.

codemasters reputation wasn't good to begin with but this will not be doing them much good...

Expected the game to have a few problems, but this is starting to turn out a bit poor I must say.

Wait to see if all of the fake results as the AI are just on track for show is true I guess...

I so wanted this to be a great F1 game...

codies won't be able to fix this with a patch. I do like the game, or did a lot, but if this is true i'll be putting up with it until gt5 and then forgetting about it. The whole point of the game is to have competitive races, not have races with AI that are just drones. Its like going back to Lotus Turbo Challenge from the early 90's and have random cars whizzing past every few seconds!

So are you saying, for instance, Every time I qualify at Monza It has already been determined that Alonso will be 1m35, Massa 1m36, Webber 1m37 and what time I do will place me accordingly, but their times will never change?

if it is true its a complete shambles!

So lets say for lap 26 of a race Alonso was due to do a 1m35. I overtake him and then hold back the pack or crash into them etc and do a laptime myself of 1m40 you are saying on the screen it will show he did a 1m35?

Having not played any full career races yet I don't know when and what times you see from your opponents and how they could be scripted or why they would make a difference to the race in any way, if they were?

By what i gather its determined afterwards. So if you smash off alonso with some terminal damage which would take a long time to repair he would still qualify as if he never had any issues. It wouldn't matter what you did to the AI cars on the track. You could do a fast lap first out and park it across the track at one of the lesmos for the rest of the session and all the drivers would still set a competitive time.

I think with the race, if alonso was onscreen and you held him up then yes he would be delayed. But if you then pitted and alonso went out of view he would no longer exist in real time on the track so pretty much he could be put anywhere depending on how the built in calculator decided to place him. I would hope at least the calculation would include any issues like damage or off's. When your racing the cars on the circuit they are just 'drones', unlike GP4 for example in which if you pushed a car off onto the gravel and he lost his wing he would actually drive back and pit for a new nose cone, then rejoin while you were still racing.

Hmm, now I no why no demo came out because nobody would buy it, I said it would be crap and well it is judging from all the posts, people moaning about it rather then erm playing it.

Im thinking most folk are blowing the bugs/faults out of all proportion, it appears that most of the issues with this game will be mostly irrelevant to time trials and online races, and tbh once ive got the career achievements ill only be playing those modes...

Thats why im learning the tracks using TT and then once ive learnt them ill switch to Online, before finally once patched ill return for the career acheivements.

its not a bug/fault, its a massive sham. The whole offline game is pointless, its just a big time trial with fake AI cars.

Sure online can be fun, but the offline mode should be realistic. Such a shame as the game handles and feels great. Come on codies, get your heads down and get this issue fixed!

Just got this game and was ready to smash the pad and trade it in within 5 minutes

Such an infuriating game, but i stuck with it and its awesome :) However the first hour of me playing was restarting the practice session over and over as i couldnt get a clean lap to save my life. Gonna have to up the difficulty though as i won the Australian GP after qualifying 8th in a Lotus...

What are other people using difficulty wise btw?

Oh and AAAARGH why cant i use the D-pad to steer! yet :D

I'm playing on expert with a pad and no assists. Managed to qualify 15th in the Lotus at Bahrain but only finished in 21st due to a spin.

Spent an hour in a practice session earlier trying to set one lap in the wet in Australia and haven't come close yet.

i'm trying to work out if the fake car timings are true. Apparently you only see cars on the track that are in view, the rest is scripted - but i'm not sure how this affects gameplay.

What is quite sad, is the back in 1991 ish when Lotus turbo challenge was doing the rounds, Microprose F1 Grand Prix on an Amiga 500+ could track 24 cars in real time and allow for you to jump into any car on the track and watch the car go around...

Codemasters, if what is being said is true, can't even do this in 2010... You only see what is in front of you, the other cars aren't even being tracked and at the end of the race its all just made up etc..... Or something worse to that effect.

Its F1 rally gaming everyone.. Should have called it Colin McRea F1 2010....

now, game handles well enough and is quite addictive in someways but proper F1 to give the legendary Geoff Crammond a run for his money... Nope..

what we need, are Codemaster F1 style graphics and Geoff Crammond to do all the physics etc.... I said this from the off TBH..

I love the driving in this game, and wet races are awesome fun, but the AI issues and the various bugs are ruining it.

Everytime i pit I get dropped way down to the back, even if I don't get held up by the lolipop, and even if I've been flying round and made up loads of places before pitting.

Wet races were you don't have to pit are awesome though..

Same here... pit stops kill all your hard work. Guess its like the real thing, races are won or lost in the pits.. Sadly in this game you lose due to pits.

I still can't believe the other cars ghost through you in the pits. Amazing, how did that get through testing...??

I've had Kubica ghost through me while entering the pits and then the stewards giving me a 5 place grid penalty for blocking.
