hi guys, hope you can maybe shed some light.

my gf has a 58 corsa 1.4. she drove it today at 12.45 and all was fine, drove it at 4 and when braking, the battery warning light comes on and then the oil warning light comes on and the car stalls.

going to take it to the garage tomos but wondered if anyone had any ideas?

also would this sort of thing be covered by warranty?

cheers

It sounds like a major fault that would most likely be covered under the manufacturers warranty. I'd be highly surprised if it wasn't!

I know it sounds stupid but she is putting the Clutch down isn't she?

(I know it sounds awful but the garage will ask the same question)

thanks for the replys. we took it to the garage at 10 but didnt open until 11. left her car there and went back at 11. I had a shot of her car so i knew exactly what was happening to it so i could explain. 1st time i slowed down and took a corner, it cut out like normal. then after that it was fine.

could this be due to me revving it a bit more and braking more aggrsively? could i have unblocked something at all?

we are still taking up tomorrow tho just to make sure. wonder if we would have to get a part replaced?

any ideas?

cheers

Most probably going to be something in the intake/throttle system - an idle air control valve / throttle potentiometer / MAP/MAF sensor. None of which should be amazingly expensive - at worst it could be coil/ECU related, but I personally doubt it. :)

How mechanically minded are you OP - Crack open a can of carb cleaner and give your ICV and TB a good dousing whilst someone revs the engine, will clean all the crap out of it

Take it to the dealers.

Crack open a can of carb cleaner and give your ICV and TB a good dousing whilst someone revs the engine

dont do this....on newer cars, the last ten years or so there is a special coating that prevents build up, cleaning it with harsh chemicals like carb cleaner distroys the coating and means it'll foul up in double quick time if removed, only do this if you need to get it working to sell it on, then it's not your problem. ;)

bullit

got it in the garage this morning and just in from picking it up. surprise surprise they couldnt find anything wrong with it......

also a quick question on the waranty side of things.

car was registered in January09, had its first service september 2009. now they are saying it needs another service as its been a year. is this right or should we have until january? they are also saying it will be 200 quid.

cheers guys

I think the car does need to be serviced every year.

£200 sounds a bit steep for a Corsa though especially if its quite new.
