He cant seem to grasp the concept of carry on doing what hes doing for a few hundred quid a week, or do something positive and get qualified to justify it and get a grand a week. Which saddens me.

Its a never ending saga.

Well why would he want to do put the effort in when he can acheive all the things he wants on a few hundred quid a week? The guy was driving around in a 2 year old BMW - most people with degrees can't afford one of those - so you can see why he's thought it isnt worth bothering!

Heck I'd not have bothered to go to Uni had my Dad offered to just buy me stuff.

I wish my dad would buy me a new car when I get bored of changing gears :( I feel deprived now.

See its not quite that bad, he owns a 10k car now, has 3k of his own, so he ends up borrowing 5k or whatever off me, better than paying interest to a finance company.

Anyway i could write a book about why im semi happy with what hes doing almost as long as the one i could write about why he ****es me off, so lets just move on.

See i feel i should defend him now.

When i was young i was a **** of the first order, always in trouble fighting.

When he was sort of 15-19 he looked like going the same way, by the grace of god he managed to avoid getting a record, which is important for my plans for him.

He also stopped getting in trouble once i reinstated him for the 123rd time in work and he met the girl hes with now, things have finally settled down a bit and we are bobbing along nicely.

Now i know what you all think, tell him ****** and get on with it, believe me there are days i feel like that, but hes my son, and i want to carry on with what i have built up, the shops the diamonds the property the lot, but he needs to get some training and a business orientated degree to be useful.

But hes 21, hes young and he cant see the rush, but i can because im 44 now and when im 50 im off to Spain, good night nurse.

Now iv bored you all with this thrilling saga i hope he dosent sound quite the ingrat i might have made him sound, he is trying, just not hard or fast enough.

I've got a Business degree (MSc). Buy me a 335i ;)

I know your dad would help you without even knowing the bloke, its just more power to you that you dont ask him.

Mark, I hope you realise that your son will read this and decide to do a phd in six years time. ;)

I hope he does read it because i cant talk about this subject to him without getting the hump :)

Mark; your son troubles you, I can see that in your posts. You can’t make him you, he hasn’t got the drive you have. You’ve made it to where you are (I have little knowledge of where that is but with the metal you own you’re not doing badly for 44) because of the fights you got in and the experiences you’ve lived. Buying him things won’t help you make him a clone of you or give him the drive you need to start or run your own business. Be happy with him the way he is, that’ll give him the confidence he needs to be happy within himself, that in turn will make you happy. If you have to get someone else to manage your businesses or even sell them then so be it, maybe it’s just not what he wants or needs in his life.

If I had £20k I’d be looking at a 335i, without a doubt. Get him one, it's make him :D.

Just my 2p's worth. At the end of the day though I have no kid so I've no idea what I'm taking about, sometimes that helps to see things from a different angle though.

Cheers for that man, its a good point of view.

ive skimmed the thread and couldnt find the answer, but how old is he?

would a 335 or possibly a 330 actually be responsible if he is still in his teens etc?

he is 21 which to be honest I think it borderline but really depends on the child, my brother is 23 and drive around my dad 335i he is a responsible kid but I am still not too happy about it. But then I had my own 335i at 25 and a TT and 22 and drove them both like a idiot.

Here's a Quote Fox prepared earlier:

It appears that he's 21 and Mark seems perfectly happy letting him drive something with more power than a hair dryer, which he should perfectly be happy doing IMO.

Trying to limit your child's choice in car does nothing other than mark a massive lack of trust.

I'm still convinced that a 335i and then a remap later down the line is the answer. If he hasn't had a Turbocharged car yet the novelty of a vastly different type of power delivery is worth a good few months of entertainment in itself (That is if Modern turbo technology hasn't taken away the "Nothing... Nothing... Nothing... WHOOOOOOOOOOOOSSSSSSH" effect :D)
