So my contract is coming up soon (October) now due to the company paying for it and leaving me responsible for renewing it i'm able to get whatever phone there is out there :D.

So to all of you smart phone experts what is the best one out there to get? As i've heard there is the google nexus, iphone, the dell one etc etc and i really don't have a clue which to go for i keep hearing from people to not go for the iphone due to there being issues but aren't they still ahead of everyone when it comes to apps and software etc?

The desire is too old now.

Desire HD (4.3" screen)
Desire Z (3.7" qwerty)
IPhone 4 (polish)
BB bold 9700, will the new one be out in Oct? (Best work phone for email etc)

Love the way you say the Desire is too old yet none of the phones you have listed are any more powerful and you provide no reasoning for it being 'too old'.

Imo its still a great device that can be had for very cheap on contract making it a superb buy.

Samsung Galaxy has more screen, front camera, nternal memory and SD slot and a better GPU.

The problem with these threads is people simply recommend their phone.

Yes I have a Saumsung but it is the highest spec and newest so I recommend with a clear conscience.

The only reasons to pick a Galaxy over the upcoming Desire HD are price and the SAMOLED screen.

If the company are paying I presume that price doesn't matter, so I'd say wait for the Desire HD as it has the newest Sense UI out of the box, has an 8MP camera with flash and 'native' 720p recording, has DLNA and a lovely big screen.

Having an android phone and an iPhone I can't see why people go for the androids (other than price).
I should say that the android phone I have isn't the best one available, so the comparison might be slightly biased.

By looking at the desire hd im definately leaning towards that now.

But morba are you saying the iphone is still the ultimate phone to go for due to the amount of apps available regardless of issues?

I'm assuming the desire hd is android? are there still not many apps readily available for this?

The apps debate is slowly losing ground. We've already seen 3 top iPhone games get ported to Android over the past month and the Android app market is growing daily with more and more fully featured apps.

Today it comes down to functionality, not how big the app market is. Functionality and scope of potential. I imagine most people will be on an 18 month contract at least so over those 18 months what do you see yourself doing on that phone? Will the featureset last that long?

On an Android like the Desire you have lots of scope, if you get bored, root it and see what new features the community has/ is unlocked/unlocking for example.

surely you can do the same on the iphone with jailbreaking ?

theres loads of apps on android. loads and loads. not found many that have made me think ''wow i really like/needed that app'' . overrated imo. have no experience of iphones so might find it the same tbh

Jailbreaking only opens one avenue with a preset amount of unlocked features does it not?

Rooting on Android opens many avenues to which the level of features can be potentially unlimited depending on how far you want to go.

What apps made you meh?

Maybeyou were looking at the wrong apps because there are loads that are very useful from everyday backups online/offline to integration with your home network and controlling your MediaCentre/PC with a full featureset.

See that's the thing, people say that the iPhone is all locked down yet to do anything interesting you need to 'root' android just like a jailbreak for iphone.
Typical 'phandroid' comment tbh :)

No it's not at all, even without root on Android you can do more because Android allows more core access out of the box. Root enables higher end things and I don't think you quite understand the difference here.

You can completely change the look and feel of Android without root so anyone who isn't aware would not guess it's running Android, you cannot do that without jailbreaking an iPhone - that's one example.

Angry birds and what else?

Mini Squadron and Fruit Ninja

Ignorance personified, but then anyone who insinuates anything "fanboy" related into an argument generally is. :)

For me at the moment? The iPhone 4.

I'm sorry but that isn't true at all.
