Morning all,

Now I am fully aware that pizza in general is full of salt, fat and often sugar.
However, I made my own and have been eating loads of it over the last two days.

All that is in it is:
Bread (base)
Mozorella cheese
Pepparoni
Basil
Chopped tomatos
Tiny bit of garlic
Tiny bit of olive oil
Salt and pepper

Is this all bad or is it no different to a continental breakfast?
Am I just talking out my back end?

Nothing's "bad" for you per se, it's generally the amount and regularity of eating high fat, refined/processed carbs that is more important. As said, everything in moderation - even alcohol is good for you in small quantities. :)

Knock yourself out! It'd be even better on homemade dough though ;)

It's certainly miles better than a takeaway pizza, as you've got full control of the amount of salt, butter and quality of the ingredients.

The worst bits are the bread and the cheese... go easy on the mozzarella and go for a thin base rather than thick and it's all good.

Guess it depends on the quality of the ingredients, is it a load of nasty cheap processed cheese? A ton of greasy pepperoni? Still probably better than takeaway/frozen ones though.

Well, I don't know. Do Italians have higher obesity and cardiovascular problems then the English ?

I'm pretty sure that a 22'inch pizza, covered in processed meats, cheese and tons of salt, sprayed on butter and a good 3000 calories at least is about as far from the the traditional Italian rustic pizzas as you can get!

Fresh food, smaller portions especially carbs and meat and a load of fresh salad and I imagine a more active lifestyle as the country is not rich.

Yes Italy is so poor. They don't have a billion dollar fashion industry, cars, tourism, wine, etc.

Fresh food and smaller portions obviously are highly regarded as no one from the mediterranean would touch a can of soup or beans with a 10ft pole. They also love their salads and are complimentary served with anything. Their snacks/fast food would be bread with olives and cheese as opposed to chips and chocolate.

I don't know about the more active lifestyle but "la bella figura" culture probably leads fat people to either slim down or kill themselves anyway.

Oh yes and Italy is a poor country
